A nightmare sixth inning sent Owasso coach Larry Turner to the clubhouse and ended the Rams’ pursuit of a 14th baseball state championship Friday. Turner was ejected for arguing fair or foul on a popup in the sixth inning of a Class 6A state semifinal against Westmoore, and the Rams surrendered six runs. Westmoore (33-5) entered the inning trailing by one and ended it leading 11-6, the final margin. Westmoore coach Joe Patterson, a former all-state catcher and quarterback at Owasso, said his team was ready to rally in the sixth. “That’s our way — swing the sticks and always stay in it,” Patterson said. “We were looking to keep the game open.” Union awaits the Jaguars in the 11 a.m. Saturday title game at Oral Roberts’ J.L. Johnson Stadium. “It’ll be awesome,” Union center fielder Landen Wood said. “They’re a great team and it’s the state championship. Anything can happen.” Union (24-12) defeated Jenks 5-4 in eight innings, winning on Isaac Muncy-Reyes’ sacrifice fly to right field. Union 5, Jenks 4 Muncy-Reyes watched as Jenks (20-17) intentionally walked two batters before him in the bottom of the eighth, and then he made the Trojans pay. Hoping for a ground ball and a few quick outs, Jenks loaded the bases with no outs and the score tied 4-4.
