WOODBRIDGE — Tyler Hill drove in a pair of runs and Santiago Espinal led off the game with a solo homer as the Salem Red Sox got out to a 5-0 lead and held on to defeat the Potomac Nationals 5-4 at Pfitzner Stadium on Saturday evening. Espinal led off the game with a solo homer for the third time this season to give Salem a 1-0 lead, which doubled to 2-0 an inning later on an RBI single from Kyri Washington. Hill extended the lead to 4-0 on a two-run double in the third with the fifth run coming on a fielding error by Nationals right fielder Juan Soto. Potomac started its comeback with RBI singles from Jake Noll in the third and Carter Kieboom in the fourth to make it 5-2. After Red Sox starter Bryan Mata was relieved in the bottom of the second, relievers Daniel Gonzalez and Algenis Martinez kept the lead where it was until the bottom of the ninth inning. Soto walked to lead off the frame, followed by singles from Noll and Ian Sagdal, which made it 5-3. Bryan Mejia added a run-scoring single with two outs to make it a one-run game, but Telmito Agustin struck out swinging to end the game.
