(Carl Recine/Reuters) If English soccer superstar Wayne Rooney had a dollar for every Twitter follower, the Everton midfielder would be $17.2 million richer. That’s more than two years’ worth of the salary D.C. United is reportedly prepared to pay the 32-year-old if he decides to leave the Premier League for MLS. While BBC and Sky News reported earlier this week that Rooney had an agreement in principle to transfer stateside, one person close to D.C. United told The Post’s Steven Goff that the chances of Rooney coming to D.C. are still “50-50” and that no formal agreement is imminent. If the deal is completed, Rooney would instantly become the most famous athlete in D.C.
