In Kansas’ first game since Jayhawk AD Jeff Long fired head coach David Beaty, KU didn’t exactly have a rebound performance, losing to Kansas State 21-17. Despite leading the Wildcats 17-14 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Jayhawk offense couldn’t respond to K-State’s touchdown with two minutes to go. Even worse, this was Kansas’ final play: That is quarterback Peyton Bender, who had his only turnover of the day on this play. Yeesh. This pretty much sums up the experience that is Kansas football, but this is obviously extra painful since the Jayhawks were in this thing throughout. This ending isn’t atypical of past peak Kansas football moments. In 2015, Kansas lost to FCS South Dakota State on a fumbled spike snap: And this video from that same year, after 15 straight Jayhawk losses, is perfect, too: On the flipside, this most recent Kansas ending reminded us of the time TCU BUTT FUMBLED to give the Jayhawks their first Big 12 win of the season Whoever Kansas ends up hiring as its new head coach will clearly have a long way to go. One thing he’ll have to do to be successful is limit the moments like this latest peak Kansas one, for starters. Stay strong, Jayhawk fans.
