Steven Muehlhausen Contributor @SMuehlhausenMMA Updated at 6:50 p.m. ET Updated at 6:50 p.m. ET Former unified heavyweight champion Tyson Fury returned from a 2 1/2 year layoff in June and defeated Sefer Seferi by fourth-round TKO in what can only be described as a lackluster outing by one of the best heavyweights in the world. Fury spent much of the fight posturing while his undersized opponent merely stared at Fury and was unwilling to engage. The lineal heavyweight champion (26-0, 19 KOs) gets a step up in competition on Saturday when he takes on former two-time heavyweight title challenger Francesco Pianeta (35-4-1, 21 KOs) from Windsor Park in Belfast, Northern Ireland in a card headlined by Carl Frampton’s WBO interim featherweight title defense against Luke Jackson (3:30 p.m. ET, Showtime Boxing Facebook page … [Read more...] about Tyson Fury says we will see ‘a heavyweight Sugar Ray Leonard’ vs. Francesco Pianeta
Steven Muehlhausen Contributor @SMuehlhausenMMA Updated at 5:36 p.m. ET Updated at 5:36 p.m. ET Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin will rematch on Sept. 15 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. But it almost didn't come to fruition after Alvarez failed two drug tests for the performance-enhancing drug Clenbuterol in February that canceled the originally scheduled date of May 5. Although Canelo was out, Golovkin still fought on the date and ran through Vanes Martirosyan in two rounds. Negotiations resumed for a new date for the rematch but quickly became contentious due to GGG demanding a larger piece of the financial pie. The highly publicized dispute nearly derailed the rematch as the two sides simply couldn't see eye to eye on the split between both fighters. With the fight in doubt, the unified middleweight champion looked elsewhere and had another … [Read more...] about Gennady Golovkin reveals he had a deal to fight Billy Joe Saunders if Canelo Alvarez talks broke down

Each side has blamed the other for why the highly anticipated battle featuring the two biggest names in the heavyweight division broke down. The latest round of talks for a proposed bout fell to the wayside as Joshua will now defend his IBF, WBA and WBO titles on Sept. 22, when he takes on former titlist Alexander Povetkin. Meanwhile, Wilder is rumored to be on the verge of facing former unified and current lineal champion Tyson Fury (26-0, 19 KOs) at the end of 2018. Steven Muehlhausen Contributor @SMuehlhausenMMA Updated at 4:47 p.m. ET Updated at 4:47 p.m. ET CHICAGO - Criticism of the upcoming heavyweight tilt featuring top contender Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller and former two-division world champion Tomasz Adamek has come from both far and near. Some have deemed it a "gross mismatch" and others have wondered why Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn would even stage the Oct. 6 bout exclusively on DAZN, headlined by Jessie Vargas vs. Thomas Dulorme, when better options were available. Hearn doesn't agree with the assessment made by many. He believes that Adamek was the best available fighter for Miller due to unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua facing Alexander Povetkin and Deontay Wilder likely to fight Tyson Fury. Bradley Cullen @MrBradleyCullen Updated at 2:14 p.m. ET Updated at 2:14 p.m. ET Amir ‘King’ Khan says he'll give boxing fans a fight to remember when he steps in the ring against Samuel Vargas on Sept. 8 at Arena Birmingham in the UK. Khan's last fight against Phil Lo Greco on April 21 came after nearly two years away from the ring. The last time Khan (32-4) fought before that was in a sixth-round knockout loss to Canelo Alvarez on May 7, 2016. Despite the hiatus, Khan showed no rust when he knocked out Lo Greco in 39 seconds. The former unified super-lightweight champion spoke to the media at his Los Angeles training camp ahead of this fight against the Canada-based, Columbia native Vargas (29-3-2). Khan believes he needs to put on a show and beat Vargas in style in order to secure a Welterweight title shot later this year.
