The Patriots offense isn't as high-flying as in years past, but it showed Sunday it shouldn't be written off by Jonathan Jones Dec 8, 2019 at 10:16 pm ET • 4 min read FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots are not dead.Losers of two straight with an inefficient offense and holding an 0-3 record against the other AFC division leaders, the Patriots may look to the untrained eye like they're foundering. Don't fall for it.The Chiefs beat the Patriots 23-16 to win the AFC West and keep the Patriots from clinching a berth in the playoffs for at least another week. But this game didn't feel like a torch-passing game so much as a declaration that New England's dynasty is still intact for 2019.Two costly officiating blunders marred this game, but the Patriots weren't much for sour grapes afterward. Yes, Jerome Boger's crew screwed up twice on what were likely touchdown-scoring plays, but the six-time world champs still had a play inside the 5-yard line … [Read more...] about Don’t bury the Patriots dynasty just yet after close loss to Chiefs marred by officiating controversy

Kansas City Chiefs 23-16 New England Patriots: Chiefs clinch AFC West with road win
Kansas City Chiefs clinched their fourth consecutive AFC West title by edging out the New England Patriots 23-16 in Foxborough, ending their 21-game home win streak. The defeats is the second straight for the Patriots (10-3), who have now dropped a full game behind the Baltimore Ravens (11-2), who also hold the head-to-head tiebreaker, in the race for the AFC's top seed. The Chiefs (9-4) scored 23 consecutive points after the Patriots scored a touchdown on their opening drive - Tom Brady finding Julian Edelman on a flea flicker for 37 yards - but they then let the home team back into the game late on. Kansas City had a punt blocked, lost a fumble and went three-and-out twice as the Patriots rallied behind their stingy defense. The blocked punt by Nate Ebner helped the Pats to end a string of six scoreless possessions, with Brandon Bolden running in from 10 yards out to cut the score to 23-13.That lead was chipped away at further with a Nick Folk field goal to make it … [Read more...] about Kansas City Chiefs 23-16 New England Patriots: Chiefs clinch AFC West with road win
Referee explains N’Keal Harry’s non-touchdown call in Patriots loss to Chiefs
The Patriots lost out on a touchdown by Tyler Sullivan @TylerSully Dec 8, 2019 at 10:31 pm ET • 2 min read FOXBOROUGH, Mass -- There's plenty of reasons why the New England Patriots fell to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday evening at Gillette Stadium. The reining champs were an abysmal on third down, converting just two of their 12 attempts and couldn't muster more than seven points in the first half, while K.C. rattled off 20. With that said, the refs didn't do the hometown team any favors. On what was a pretty lackluster day for head official Jerome Boger's squad, a missed N'Keal Harry touchdown was the call that drew the most questions following the 23-16 loss for New England. On a first-and-15 play with just over 13 minutes to go in the fourth quarter, Tom Brady completed a pass to the rookie first round receiver, who ran up field along the sideline and by all accounts was able to cross the goal line for the score. Officials … [Read more...] about Referee explains N’Keal Harry’s non-touchdown call in Patriots loss to Chiefs
Patriots’ first-half offensive struggles continue in Week 14 loss to the Chiefs
New England needs to start games on a better note by Tyler Sullivan @TylerSully Dec 8, 2019 at 11:01 pm ET • 2 min read FOXBOROUGH, Mass -- Hot starts haven't exactly been a pillar to the Patriots offense over the last couple of weeks and Sunday's loss to the Chiefs was the latest example of a potential Achilles heel for the defending champions as the calendar is now turned to December. Outside of their opening score of the game (which was helped by a couple of third down penalties by Kansas City), the Patriots went seven offensive possessions without putting up points. In the second quarter alone, Kansas City's offense rattled off 17 points, digging the Pats in a hole that proved to be too much to overcome. This is the second straight week that New England has gone into the locker room at halftime after scoring single digits. In all, they were outscored 34-10 by the Chiefs and Texans in the first half in Weeks 13 and 14. Because of … [Read more...] about Patriots’ first-half offensive struggles continue in Week 14 loss to the Chiefs
Watch: Tyler Herro catches fire late in OT win over Bulls
As a freshman at Kentucky last season, Tyler Herro famously said, "I'm a bucket" while scoring a career-high 29 points as the Wildcats rallied from a 15-point second half deficit to beat Arkansas at Rupp Arena. The Miami Heat found out the true meaning of that phrase Sunday night. The 19-year-old rookie guard scored 16 of Miami's last 18 points and 11 in overtime, including a go-ahead three-pointer with 38.2 seconds left and a pair of three throws with 0.5 second remaining to give the Heat a 110-105 home win over the Chicago Bulls.
