Rain or Shine extends Yap’s contractRain or Shine agreed to extend the per month maximum contract of superstar James Yap to P420,000 for the duration of two to three years. Swingman Ed Daquioag and big man Norbert Torres also received contract extensions of three years each. “It’s already done. He already agreed to sign up with us the soonest but he’s just thinking how long the tenure of his new contract is. It’s up to him if he wants a three-year or two-year maximum contract. Anytime, he will formally sign up with us. We really like him on our team,” said lawyer Mamerto Mondragon, Rain or Shine’s team governor. The 14-year PBA veteran Yap had an average of 9.7 points and 3.0 rebounds in 10 games in the Governors’ Cup. “We already signed up Torres and Daquiaog too to three years each but not a maximum contract,” added Mondragon, who didn’t elaborate the details of both contracts. … [Read more...] about Rain or Shine extends Yap’s contract
Suns owner threatens to ship NBA franchise to SeattleThe Arizona Republic reported that the Phoenix City Council was set to vote on a proposal that would see the city pay $150M on a $230M renovation plan for the Talking Stick Resort Arena, with the Suns contributing the remaining $80M. The deal would have also ensured that the Suns were committed to staying in Phoenix through at least 2037. However, in the wake of “backlash from the community,” it appears that vote will be postponed. According to The Arizona Republic’s Jessica Roberts, delaying the vote will allow time for a pair of public hearings on the project, whereas if the Phoenix City Council shot down the proposal, it might kill future prospects for a deal. There are seven city council members and at least three are currently opposing the arena renovation plan. As Boehm explains, the Suns’ current arena lease runs through 2032, but that agreement includes a provision that would allow the franchise to opt … [Read more...] about Suns owner threatens to ship NBA franchise to Seattle
