Feature 31 // 31 Jan 2019, 20:02 IST SHARE There is this principle that we learn in management courses called the marginal utility principle. It states that the more you consume a good or a commodity, the satisfaction you obtain from the consumption of every additional unit decreases. While almost everything in life follows this principle, there are a few exceptions as well. And when I sat and pondered if anything or anyone from the field I love, 'sports' could probably defy this principle of management, the first name that came to my mind is Roger Federer. Now, to understand why this is true, we will have to first understand this- There are a few men in sport, and they are only a handful, who take sport watching to peaks not witnessed before. These are men who take you to places you have not been to, and make you gape at them time and again in awe. She had her leg amputated and 14 rounds of chemo by age 3. Now she plays varsity basketball.
In her first game as a junior varsity basketball player last season, Amanda Merrell absorbed contact from an opponent and fell to the ground. The gym felt silent. Players on the opposing team, worried she was hurt, quickly helped her up. When Merrell fell again, they helped her up again. But after Merrell drained three straight baskets, no one from the other team came when she fell the next time. "When she fell the third time, a girl actually stepped over Amanda instead of helping her. It was so funny," said coach Kevin Jones of Huntingtown High School in Maryland. "They realized 'We're not going to help this girl anymore. She's good to go.' "From the waist up, she carries herself just like any of her teammates. Look down though, and it's easy to be amazed by the 16-year-old. When she shoots, instead of setting both feet like most players, she puts her right leg in front of her body and jumps only with that leg. When she runs, she kicks out her left leg sideways as if she's drawing … [Read more...] about She had her leg amputated and 14 rounds of chemo by age 3. Now she plays varsity basketball.
Monaco Owner Backs Manager Thierry Henry with ‘Total Support’
Jean Catuffe/Getty Images AS Monaco owner Dimitri Rybolovlev has given manager Thierry Henry his "total support" despite a difficult start to life as a senior manager that saw him go his first six games in charge without a win. Henry won his first match as a manager at Caen on Saturday when Radamel Falcao scored the only goal. ESPN FC's Ian Holyman provided a statement from a club spokesperson, who said Rybolovlev visited Monaco training and backed Henry despite him only taking one point from four Ligue 1 matches at the time: "After a trip to Moscow during which he had several meetings and celebrated his birthday with those close to him and his friends on Nov. 22, Dimitri Rybolovlev came to see AS Monaco's training session. "He took advantage of that to congratulate them for their win against Caen, and assure them -- as well as Thierry Henry -- of his total support and to share with them his confidence in the ability of the team and the AS Monaco technical stuff to turn … [Read more...] about Monaco Owner Backs Manager Thierry Henry with ‘Total Support’
