The International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket Committee, led by former India captain Anil Kumble, on Thursday informed that the contentious ‘Umpire’s Call’ will continue to be a part of the Decision Review System – DRS. There has been a lot of debate in recent times around the ‘Umpire’s Call’ with current and former cricketers asking for a re-look into the DRS regulations. India captain Virat Kohli had publicly called it ‘confusing’ after a few controversial decisions during the limited-overs series against England. The Cricket Committee has approved three other changes to the DRS and Third Umpire protocols during the meeting. “For LBW reviews, the height margin of the Wicket Zone will be lifted to the top of the stumps to ensure the same Umpire’s Call margin around the stumps for both height and width. A player will be able to ask the umpire whether a genuine attempt has been made to play the ball before deciding to review an LBW decision. The 3rd Umpire will check a replay of … [Read more...] about ICC Cricket Committee Meet: ‘Umpire’s Call’ Will Remain, 3 Changes to DRS And 3rd Umpire Protocols Approved

Contentious ‘Umpire’s Call’ to stay, claims ICC; 3 changes to DRS and 3rd Umpire protocols introduced
It was ruled that the contentious 'Umpire's Call' will continue to be a part of the Decision Review System. Called "confusing" by India captain Virat Kohli, the Umpire's Call has been a subject of controversy for a while now. As per the existing rule, 50 per cent of the ball should be hitting at least one of the three stumps for the batsman to be adjudged LBW on review in case an umpire's 'not out' call has been challenged. On this development, Kumble said: "The Cricket Committee had an excellent discussion around Umpire's Call and analysed its use extensively. The principle underpinning DRS was to correct clear errors in the game whilst ensuring the role of the umpire as the decision-maker on the field of play was preserved, bearing in mind the element of prediction involved with the technology. Umpire's Call allows that to happen, which is why it is important it remains." ICC cricket committee approves changes to DRS protocols for LBW referrals
NEW RULES by Cricbuzz Staff • Last updated on Share Tweet The 'wicket zone' will now be increased to the top of the stumps. © BCCI The ICC Cricket Committee led by former Indian captain Anil Kumble, on Thursday (April 1), backed the much-debated Umpire's Call and said that it would remain in the game. The board, however, has approved changes to the way LBW referrals will be judged under the Decision Review System (DRS). In the recent past, the 'Umpire's Call' had come under scrutiny, with Virat Kohli suggesting that it was 'creating more confusion' and urging the ICC to simplify the game. In a newly approved decision, the ICC board has agreed to increase the height of the 'wicket zone' - the area of the stumps the tracking technology must show the ball to be hitting for an on-field not-out call to be overturned - to top of the bails. Earlier, the zone was restricted to only the bottom of the bails, wherein the … [Read more...] about ICC cricket committee approves changes to DRS protocols for LBW referrals
IPL 2021 Following Kohli’s Disagreement; BCCI Do Away With Soft Signal by Umpires on DRS Calls
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has made a big decision regarding the controversial on-field umpires giving soft signals when referring to a decision to the third umpire. The big change comes into consideration after Team India captain Virat Kohli claims it creates confusion. According to the updated rules, “Soft Signal: Onfield Umpire giving Soft Signal while referring the decision to the 3rd Umpire will not be applicable.” It is going to give full authority to the third-umpire to take the call with the technological advancements sans keeping in mind the umpire’s call. “There have been cases wherein the soft signal has kind of created confusion rather than giving clarity to the third umpire and that is why it was felt that going back to the old method of referring decisions to the third umpire if the on-field umpires are not sure should be followed,” a source told ANI. In the fourth T20I, Team India suffered at a couple of decisions due to the soft-signals from the … [Read more...] about IPL 2021 Following Kohli’s Disagreement; BCCI Do Away With Soft Signal by Umpires on DRS Calls
Umpire’s call creating lot of confusion, if ball is hitting stumps it should be out: Kohli
As per the existing rule, at least 50 per cent of the ball should be hitting at least one of the three stumps for the batsman to be adjudged LBW on review in case an umpire's call has been challenged. "I played for a long time when there was no DRS. Right. If the umpire made a decision, whether the batsman liked it or not, it stayed like that. Vice versa the umpire gave it not out and it was out, it stayed like that, whether it was marginal or not," said Kohli ahead of the first ODI of a three-match series against England in Pune on Tuesday (March 23). India vs England, 1st ODI: Preview, Date, Timing, Live telecast, Live streaming "According to me, umpire's call right now is creating a lot of confusion. When you get bowled as a batsman, you don't expect the ball to hit more than 50 per cent into the stumps to consider yourself bowled. "So from basic cricket common-sense, I don't think that there should be any debate on that. If the ball is clipping the stumps, that should … [Read more...] about Umpire’s call creating lot of confusion, if ball is hitting stumps it should be out: Kohli
