England vs India, Edgbaston: India batter Shreyas Iyer found himself at the receiving end on Twitter as the 27-year-old once again succumbed to the short ball in the second innings of the fifth Test between England and India played at Edgbaston . Iyer has had his issues with the short ball and his weakness in playing anything above his waist is an open secret in the world of cricket. Matty Potts was the beneficiary here as James Anderson took a simple catch at mid-wicket. The trap was set by England captain Ben Stokes and Iyer obliged by going for the pull shot only to find the man stationed there, especially for that kind of a shot. Fell into the trap ? Jos Buttler hails Ben Stokes as England Test captain bids farewell to ODI cricket
Stokes announced on Monday that Tuesday's clash against South Africa, which ended in a 62-run defeat for England, would be his last in 50-over internationals as he looks to prolong his career in other formats. The England Test captain was unable to leave his mark on his final outing, finishing with 0-44 in his five overs with the ball and scoring just five with the bat. Yet Stokes still finishes as one of just three players to score 2,500 or more runs and take 50-plus wickets in men's ODIs for England (2,924 runs, 74 wickets), alongside Paul Collingwood and Andrew Flintoff. Those numbers are impressive but his World Cup-winning unbeaten 84 in the 50-over final against New Zealand before scoring eight in the Super Over will remain his crowning moment in the format. Buttler, who batted alongside Stokes in that Super Over, was quick to recall his World Cup heroics as the white-ball captain thanked his team-mate for his relentless efforts on a consistent basis. "From myself … [Read more...] about Jos Buttler hails Ben Stokes as England Test captain bids farewell to ODI cricket

Ben Stokes leaves behind ODI legacy after South Africa swansong
Those were the words from commentator Ian Smith that stick long in the memory from the dramatic 2019 World Cup final, England winning the 50-over competition after a culmination of four years of planning. But Smith's dramatic exclamation, the spectacle, and the complete chaos at Lord's would not have been possible without Christchurch-born Ben Stokes. England were reeling at 86-4 chasing 242 in tricky conditions against an unrelenting New Zealand attack, before Stokes – aided by a fortuitous dive – struck an unbeaten 84 to take the final to a Super Over. Not satisfied with his fifth half-century of the tournament, and arguably the greatest white-ball innings of all time, Stokes added eight runs in the subsequent Super Over as England were crowned world champions on the bizarre boundary countback ruling. The all-rounder's crowning moment in white-ball cricket came just three years after conceding four consecutive sixes in the last over of the T20 World Cup final as Carlos … [Read more...] about Ben Stokes leaves behind ODI legacy after South Africa swansong

CWG 2022: Vandana Katariya’s brace hands Indian women’s hockey team second win on the trot
After defeating Ghana in their opening match, Vandana Katariya struck a brace as India maintained their win record. For India all three goals came from penalty corners as Katariya scored two, while Gurjit Kaur fired a fierce drag-flick to hand India their second win on Saturday (July 31). In the Pool A encounter, the Indians were the much better side on display as they controlled the game from the start to finish, barring a few phases. Penalty corner conversion still continued to be a concern for India as they made use of three out of the seven they earned in the match. Wales, on the other hand, utilised the only chance they got in the game with Xenna Hughes on the target. The Indians attacked the Wales citadel continuously from the world go but they failed to find the finishing touches from the moves. Wales goalkeeper Roseanne Thomas played a superb game and if not for her, the scoreline could have been much bigger in favour of India. The Indians dominated in … [Read more...] about CWG 2022: Vandana Katariya’s brace hands Indian women’s hockey team second win on the trot
