BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The Michigan football team once again suffered a surprising loss, and it was once again largely at the hands of a woeful defensive effort. This time, the Wolverines allowed 38 points, 460 yards of offense and 28 first downs to No. 13 Indiana en route to a 38-21 loss. Throughout the game, Michigan fans continued to place blame on defensive coordinator Don Brown. Once viewed as among the best defensive coordinators in the game, Brown’s defense has surrendered 36.0 points per game over Michigan’s last five games, including four losses. After the game, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh backed Brown, however, stating that he still holds confidence in the veteran coach’s ability to change course. “Yes I do,” Harbaugh said. “Very much so. I love all of our coaches, every coach on this staff. They work extremely hard, their schemes are very good and they’re coaching good. Just keep forging ahead, stay after it to make that next step. Critical step.” Rather, when … [Read more...] about Jim Harbaugh backs Don Brown after Michigan’s loss to Indiana

Zach Wilson on New York Jets: ‘They’ve got a good thing going’
BYU quarterback Zach Wilson completed his Pro Day on Friday amid a lot of movement in the NFL Draft. In addition to the San Francisco 49ers trading up from No. 12 to No. 3, the Dolphins ended up trading that No. 12 pick to get back to No. 6 with the Philadelphia Eagles. Wilson is likely going within the first three picks and the Eagles even attempted to trade up to No. 3 before backing out because they were enamored by Wilson. But at No. 2, the New York Jets sit and they seem like the likely destination for Wilson. Speaking at his Pro Day after throwing, Wilson was asked about what he thought of the Jets organization and possibly playing there. “BYU QB Zach Wilson on the Jets: ‘Great staff. Love those guys. Joe Douglas is a great guy. It was good to see him out here. They’ve got a good thing going,’” Ralph Vacchiano of SNY tweeted. “Asked if he’d like to play in NY, Wilson said ‘I’d be happy to play with any team that drafts me.’” Wilson is an intriguing … [Read more...] about Zach Wilson on New York Jets: ‘They’ve got a good thing going’
Knicks center Mitchell Robinson out with right foot fracture
This is a punch to the gut of the best Knicks team in years. Center Mitchell Robinson will miss some time — maybe the rest of the season — after fracturing his foot during the teams’ win against the Bucks Saturday, the team announced. He is averaging 8.5 points — on an impressive 65.1% shooting — and 8.4 rebounds a game this season. Robinson’s injury will mean some more run for Nerlens Noel and Taj Gibson , plus possibly more experimentation with Julius Randle at center lineups. The Knicks had faded in the pursuit of free agent Andre Drummond — who … [Read more...] about Knicks center Mitchell Robinson out with right foot fracture

McKayla Maroney’s first comments on Larry Nassar; transcript
McKayla Maroney spoke about Larry Nassar for the first time in front of media on Tuesday, calling the ex-USA Gymnastics team doctor “a monster.” A transcript from her talk at a New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children luncheon via the NYSPCC : Maroney: First I want to start with, I need to look at note cards, because I haven’t spoken yet. In my whole gymnastics career I was trained to be quiet, so it’s something that happens where I hear these questions and I emotionally go ‘no, no, it’s perfect, and everything’s OK,’ but things were not. That’s why I’m here. I really want to help the change. I do want to thank you all, so much. I hope you enjoy your lunch. Question: Institutional abuse. Fear, guilt, embarrassment … keep victims from coming forward. What was coming forward like for you? Maroney: In a way, the fear turned to fearlessness when I knew that it would help so many people. Like I said, I was taught for so many years that I wasn’t supposed … [Read more...] about McKayla Maroney’s first comments on Larry Nassar; transcript
