Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit Top247 linebacker Troy Bowles confirmed with 247Sports on Wednesday that he plans to announce a commitment on July 16. Bowles, who is the son of Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles, added that he's down to three schools: Georgia (his 247Sports' Crystal Ball leader), Ohio State and Oklahoma. The deadline for franchise players to sign multiyear contracts is July 15 at 4 p.m. ET. After the deadline passes, players with franchise tags are prohibited from signing long-term deals until the end of the regular season on Jan. 8, 2023. Eight players received franchise player designations this year. Four have already signed long term. The two franchised wide receivers quickly agreed to deals after the 2022 league year started on March 16. The Buccaneers gave Chris Godwin a three-year, $60 million deal with $40 million fully guaranteed despite him tearing the ACL and MCL in his right knee late in the 2021 regular season. Report: Portland Trail Blazers to waive guard Eric Bledsoe
The Trail Blazers have been looking for a trade partner to take Eric Bledsoe for weeks, going back to before the NBA Draft, but to no avail. Bledsoe has a $19.4 million contract for next season but only $3.9 million is guaranteed. That changes on July 10 when the full contract becomes locked in. Faced with a decision to pay him the entire amount to be a third point guard or let him walk, the Trail Blazers will waive Bledsoe, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic. INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Allyson Felix was named to her 10th world championship team, where she will have a chance to run in the mixed relay event and add to her record medal collection. Felix, whose 18 medals are the most in world-championship history, has announced that this will be her final season in track. At last month’s U.S. championships, she finished sixth in the 400 meters and did not qualify for any individual events. But the 36-year-old was named to the mixed relay pool Tuesday when USA Track and Field released its 151-person roster for worlds. The world championships run July 15-24 in Eugene, Oregon.
