Roger Penske calls IndyCar/NASCAR doubleheader on street course ‘interesting’

· March 22, 2021 ·

In a season that will see the NASCAR Cup Series race on a dirt track for the first time since 1970 and more road courses than it has in a single year, about the only thing missing is a race on a street course. Car owner Roger Penske — who acquired the NTT IndyCar Series in 2019 — says he is for a NASCAR street race and having more doubleheader weekends between the two series. “I think that’s interesting,” Penske said during a Zoom with media Monday on the concept of NASCAR and IndyCar holding races on a street course on the same weekend. “Remember down in Australia we ran a similar type car (Australian Supercars). It was a little bit smaller, but we ran every week down there and every race was on some sort of a street or a permanent road course and it was great.  So, that could certainly be an opportunity and something we should take a look at.” Penske has liked the idea for a few years, saying in 2018 : “I think if somebody wanted to do (a NASCAR street course race) … [Read more...] about Roger Penske calls IndyCar/NASCAR doubleheader on street course ‘interesting’

India overcome Sam Curran 95* in nerve-racking series win

· March 28, 2021 ·

ENGLAND TOUR OF INDIA, 2021 by Cricbuzz Staff • Last updated on Share Tweet T Natarajan held his nerve and conceded only 6 runs in the final over © BCCI In a game where the pendulum oscillated to and fro, India just about held their nerve to seal a humdinger against England in the third and final ODI in Pune. Sam Curran essayed a valiant, unbeaten hand of 95 but the visitors fell short by a mere seven runs to lose the series 1-2. With England struggling at 200 for 7, India were clearly in the ascendancy. However, on a very good batting surface, where the bounce remained mostly true through the course of the match, Curran gave England renewed hope of pulling off a heist. He collected a string of boundaries off Hardik Pandya, Prasidh Krishna and T Natarajan to put some pressure back on the Indian team. He also found an able ally in Adil Rashid who also cracked a couple of boundaries to ensure the required run-rate would remain … [Read more...] about India overcome Sam Curran 95* in nerve-racking series win

Sam Curran’s superb unbeaten 95 in vain as India beat England in series-deciding third ODI

· March 28, 2021 ·

A magnificent unbeaten 95 from Sam Curran came in vain as India secured a clean sweep of series wins over England with a dramatic seven-run victory in the crucial third one-day international. With England faltering in their chase of 330, the all-rounder made the most of being dropped on 22 and thumped nine fours and three sixes in his 83-ball knock but, left needing two sixes from the last two balls, he came up just short. Quickfire half-centuries from Rishabh Pant (78 from 72 balls), Shikhar Dhawan (67 from 56) and Hardik Pandya (64 from 44) had helped India to post 329 in Pune, despite a lower-order collapse seeing them bowled out in 48.2 overs. Third ODI scorecard: India vs England As it happened Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3-42) then removed England's two in-form openers, Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow early, and the tourists' chase suffered a serious blow when Shardul Thakur (4-67) dismissed Liam Livingstone (36 from 31) and Dawid Malan (50 from 50) in quick … [Read more...] about Sam Curran’s superb unbeaten 95 in vain as India beat England in series-deciding third ODI

India vs England: In Sam Curran’s 95, Jos Buttler saw shades of MS Dhoni

· March 29, 2021 ·

In pursuit of 330, England slumped to 168 for six at the midway stage but Sam, who came into bat at No. 8, took them to the verge of an unlikely win with his counterattacking knock. "Sam played an outstanding innings there and will take a lot from that moving forward, even though there's the disappointment of losing the game," Buttler said at the post-match press conference on Sunday night. "I'm sure there were shades of the way that he (MS Dhoni) would have liked to take the game down if he was in that situation. He's a great person for Sam to have a conversation with when he meets up MS (in the IPL)." "He's a real impact player in the game. He will just continue to get better and better. He is still only 22 and the scope of where you can take his game to is massive. So we're all very excited for him." India vs England: Curran carries visitors close but hosts still secure ODI series India won a close game by seven runs despite Sam's exploits with the bat.
