For those tempted to write off Erling Haaland’s historically-hot start to life as a Premier League striker, we get it: There’s something rather dull about not wondering the identity of the 2022 Golden Boot winner, but just the number of his final tally. Haaland’s Premier League-leading 11 goals from seven games has him five goals clear of the next two players: Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic. That’s 1.57 goals per game from Haaland, a pace that would bag him just under 60 goals over the course of a 38-game Premier League season. [ MORE: How to watch Premier League in USA ] And even though Haaland is currently overperforming his expected goals total of 8.35, that translates to more than 43 goals scored in a single season. (For a breakdown of how Haaland’s doing what he does, check this video): Haaland is extremely unlikely to hit even 50 goals given the schedule congestion to come for Man City, but the Premier League record could very well be … [Read more...] about Premier League top scorers: Who is leading 2022 Golden Boot race?

At first, Goncalo Guedes refused. Bruno Lage, his coach in the Benfica academy, had proposed a bet while on a visit to Madrid for a tournament. He would get a haircut like Cristiano Ronaldo, but only if the young winger got a Mohawk like Mario Balotelli. Eventually, and much to the amusement of his team-mates, Guedes came back with a counterproposal. He would get the Mohawk, but it would be inverted; shaved through the middle, but with enough on the sides, he hoped, to conceal the damage. Lage happily accepted and, needlessly to say, it was Guedes who came out of it worse, his inverted Mohawk so ridiculous that he had little choice but to shave off the sides as well. "I was 14 or 15 but I had been moved up a year, so I was the youngest in the group," Guedes tells Sky Sports with a chuckle as he recalls the episode. "I was a bit young and crazy. I joked with the manager a lot. After that, we always had a good relationship." USATSI The Associated Press is mulling changes to the way its 50 voters ultimately chose the NFL's Most Valuable Player, sources tell CBS Sports. For years, voters have submitted one name and one name only for the league's top on-field award. Now, the AP is considering ranked-choice voting for MVP, a system where voters rank multiple candidates by preference. Sources say several voters have pushed for this system for years. The AP's award has long been considered the true NFL MVP, even though other outlets have also issued MVPs over the years. Last year, Aaron Rodgers won his second consecutive NFL MVP title and fourth overall when he got 39 votes to Tom Brady's 10. Cooper Kupp got the other vote. There hasn't been any genuine intrigue around who would win the award in at least a decade, since Adrian Peterson got 30 1/2 votes to Peyton Manning's 19 1/2 in 2012. By the time the regular season ends -- and usually even a week or two before the finale -- a regular NFL … [Read more...] about NFL MVP voting: Changes could be coming for determining the league’s most valuable player
Has Cristiano Ronaldo played his last game for Manchester United? [ MORE: How to watch Premier League in USA ] With the summer transfer window closing at 6pm ET on Thursday, Sept. 1, Manchester United’s next game is at home against Leicester City on the same day as it kicks off at 3pm ET. That means if Ronaldo is going to get his wish to leave Manchester United, he may have just played his final minutes as a Red Devil in their narrow 1-0 win at Southampton. What did Erik ten Hag say about Ronaldo’s future? Erik ten Hag had this to say when asked if that was the final game in a Manchester United shirt for Cristiano Ronaldo: “We plan with him. So we want him to stay. So that is what we want.” Ronaldo came on in the 68th minute with United 1-0 up and he had two chances on the break. First, Moussa Djenepo denied him in the box with a wonderful last-ditch tackle. Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte says reports linking him with a return to Juventus are "disrespectful" and "incredible", and insists he is happy at Spurs. Tottenham manager Antonio Conte on Thursday hit out at "disrespectful" claims he could quit the Premier League club to rejoin Juventus. Conte has been linked with a move to Juventus after the Serie A club's poor start to the season. The Italian, whose Tottenham contract expires at the end of this season, has close ties with Juve after winning the title in Turin as both a player and manager. Having led Tottenham to Champions League qualification last term before masterminding their unbeaten start to the new English top-flight season, Conte's stock is high. But despite reports Massimiliano Allegri could be sacked after Juventus won only two of their first seven Serie A games, Conte is adamant he remains committed to Spurs. "I think this is disrespectful for the Juventus coach and disrespectful for me working for Tottenham," Conte told reporters. "We've just started the season. Many times I spoke about this topic and I always said I'm happy and enjoying my time with Tottenham. … [Read more...] about Tottenham Hotpur Boss Antonio Conte Dismisses Talk Of Juventus Link | Football News
