The best free-kick I’ve scored this season was at Luton but I don’t practise them. Some people might say, ‘well you would be a lot better if you did’, but I think maybe I would overthink it.I cross the ball all the time so I have got the natural ability and when I step up for free-kicks I feel confident and fancy myself to at least hit the target.Maybe around the box at other places I’ve not been first-choice, but I’ve scored three free-kicks here this season.I would be lying if I said I looked back at clips of other people, like David Beckham. Because then the game happened. It was … something. I think Jake Shapiro — our newly minted Rapids reporter — wrote it best: “Nobody around Dick’s Sporting Goods Park could remember a time they’ve seen any soccer team score on themselves twice in one game. If memory served the people of Colorado correct, they certainly had never … [Read more...] about What’s it like to watch the Rapids beat themselves? More fun than you might think.

Nørrebrogade in Copenhagen. File photo: Ida Guldbæk Arentsen/Ritzau Scanpix The Local Denmark’s editor Michael Barrett is hoping to become a Danish citizen. For most prospective new nationals of the Scandinavian country, that means passing a citizenship test. I pedalled hard as I cycled along Nørrebrogade, a busy main road in Copenhagen’s Nørrebro neighbourhood, in chilly weather on Wednesday afternoon. I was a few minutes late for the recommended arrival time of 12:15pm at Nørrebrohallen, a sports centre and one of 53 locations across the country where the citizenship test was to be taken simultaneously from 1pm. 4,537 people had registered for the test nationwide, according to figures from the Ministry of Immigration and Integration. There was no need to get too out of breath, as when I arrived there was still a large queue of people waiting to register and hand over their mobile phones for safekeeping before entering the exam hall. … [Read more...] about I took the Danish citizenship test today.
