Deshaun Watson shot down this settlement offer from the NFL that would have suspended him for less than a year

August 4, 2022 by www.cbssports.com Leave a Comment

Diamond Images With the NFL now appealing Deshaun Watson's six-game suspension, there's a very real chance that his punishment could get worse in the coming weeks. The NFL originally wanted Watson suspended for at least a year, and now, the league will be gunning to actually make that happen, according to CBS Sport NFL Insider Jonathan Jones . Although Judge Sue Robinson ordered the six-game suspension, Roger Goodell (or someone he designates) will now have final say in the case because he's the one who oversees the appeal process. The NFL filing an appeal in a case where the NFL is in charge of the appeal process makes it hard to imagine a scenario where the NFL doesn't add a substantial amount of games to Watson's suspension. Watson could have avoided all of this if he had settled his case with the NFL and he had a chance to do just that before Robinson delivered her judgement on Monday. According to ESPN.com , in the days leading up to Robinson's verdict, both the … [Read more...] about Deshaun Watson shot down this settlement offer from the NFL that would have suspended him for less than a year

The NFL originally wanted Watson suspended for at least a year, and now, the league will be gunning to actually make that happen, according to CBS Sport NFL Insider Jonathan Jones . UCLA agrees to settlement north of $67 million in Under Armour dispute; report

July 30, 2022 by 247sports.com Leave a Comment

UCLA agreed to a settlement with Under Armour worth about $67.5 million, according to The LA Times' Ben Bolch . The dispute began about two years ago when Under Armour unilaterally cancelled the contract between the two entities which was worth $280 million over 15 years, bringing UCLA to sue the apparel company due to a breach of contract. The two sides officially reached the agreement in May. The LA Times report also states that the settlement includes a mutual non-disparagement agreement that was approved by the UC Board of Regents. UCLA incurred $102.8-million of debt to its athletic department, caused in part by the loss of the Under Armour deal. A fter the Bruins announced last month that they'd be leaving the Pac-12 for the Big Ten, they are expected to earn more than double in annual TV money than they were expected to if they stayed in the Pac-12. "Under Armour has recently made the difficult decision to discontinue our partnership with UCLA, as we have … [Read more...] about UCLA agrees to settlement north of $67 million in Under Armour dispute; report

Agent’s Take: Dissecting and trying to make sense of the Deshaun Watson discipline case

August 3, 2022 by www.cbssports.com Leave a Comment

Diamond Images The long-anticipated decision of whether Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson violated the NFL 's personal conduct policy was issued on Monday by disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson, who was jointly appointed by the NFL and NFLPA. Watson's case was the first under a revamped process in the NFL collective bargaining agreement where commissioner Roger Goodell is no longer the sole arbiter of personal conduct discipline. The retired U.S. District Court judge suspended Watson six games for violating the policy without imposing a fine. Since suspensions are without pay, Watson forfeits $345,000 (or 6/18ths of the $1.035 million 2022 base salary) because he earns $57,500 each of the 18 weeks in the regular season. None of Watson's $44.935 million signing bonus in the fully guaranteed, five-year contract worth $230 million he signed in March as a part of trade from the Texans is in jeopardy because of the way the contract is structured. Robinson also thought it was … [Read more...] about Agent’s Take: Dissecting and trying to make sense of the Deshaun Watson discipline case

Jules Kounde has not been registered to play for Barcelona ahead of their La Liga opener against Rayo Vallecano. Barcelona had hoped to register all of their new summer signings this week after raising £85m from selling 24.5 per cent of Barca Studios to Orpehus Media - but Kounde will have to wait to make his debut after the list of registered players was announced on Friday night. Robert Lewandowski (£42.5m), Raphinha (£55m), Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie, who all joined during this transfer window, have been included in the squad ahead of their opening fixture at home to Rayo Vallecano on Saturday. Ousmane Dembele and Sergi Roberto have also been registered after agreeing new contracts, while Barcelona are yet to complete the transfer of Marcos Alonso from Chelsea and Manchester City's Bernardo Silva remains a top target. Jeremy Lin on the fight Stephen Curry faced to play his own way and lasting effects of ‘Linsanity’

August 11, 2022 by www.skysports.com Leave a Comment

San Francisco was the epicentre of the NBA universe this summer and as a Bay Area boy raised in nearby Palo Alto, Jeremy Lin will no doubt have been aware of the party fervour as the Golden State Warriors celebrated their fourth NBA championship in the last eight years. But at one time, Lin himself was the epicentre of the NBA universe. Seasoned fans will remember 'Linsanity' just over a decade ago, when the point guard became the talking point of the entire league with a run of magnificent displays for the New York Knicks. Lin emerged from the back of the rotation to capture the hearts of the city, as well as the attention of the global basketball audience with his performances. Anthony Joshua: Celebrating 10 years since Olympic gold at London 2012

August 12, 2022 by www.skysports.com Leave a Comment

It was the ultimate reward for a glistening amateur rise and the launchpad for a professional career that would take Anthony Joshua to the pinnacle of boxing. August 12 marks 10 years since AJ set his pursuit of world title stardom in motion as he clinched Olympic super heavyweight gold with victory over Roberto Cammarelle at London 2012. It fittingly glossed Team GB's most successful boxing return since 1920 and marked the host nation's final medal of the Games, Joshua having since established himself as an honorary member, perhaps even chairman, of the 'where are they now?' bunch. A day earlier Oleksandr Usyk had toppled Clemente Russo to win heavyweight gold after fending off household names in Michael Hunter and unified knockout merchant Artur Beterbiev to preview a decade as one of the sport's most enthralling technicians. From introduction to culmination, the pair now find themselves gearing up for a career-defining night at the top of boxing's most celebrated … [Read more...] about Anthony Joshua: Celebrating 10 years since Olympic gold at London 2012

Chelsea Premier League 2022-23 season preview, bold predictions: Will preseason woes hurt Thomas Tuchel’s men?

August 3, 2022 by www.cbssports.com Leave a Comment

Getty Images Before a competitive ball has even been kicked the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital era is off to a shaky start in West London. After the loss of two senior defenders, the new owners have found the transfer window to be full of challenges, all the more so when you are trying to build a front office on the fly. Meanwhile, the preseason results and performances on the pitch have not been what Thomas Tuchel would demand from his squad, and as the clock ticks inexorably towards Everton on Saturday's opening day there are jitters around Chelsea . Perhaps they are all the more pronounced because this is a club that knows how a poisonous atmosphere in the summer months can infect the coming season, most notably in a 2015-16 campaign where it looked for a moment like Jose Mourinho could relegate his own champions but also under Antonio Conte two years later. Is this just a bedding in period for the new regime, or is there real cause for concern around Stamford Bridge? … [Read more...] about Chelsea Premier League 2022-23 season preview, bold predictions: Will preseason woes hurt Thomas Tuchel’s men?
