Kentucky guard Shaedon Sharpe officially declared for the 2022 NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility on Thursday afternoon. While this announcement was expected , the journey to this point has made an already difficult evaluation even more difficult for NBA decision makers drafting inside the lottery. To start, NBA decision makers, in large part, have not had the chance to evaluate the former five-star prospect in person. The NBA did allow personnel to attend and evaluate the Nike Peach Jam last July, during which the 6-foot-5 two guard competed for UPlay Canada U17 program. Unfortunately for NBA organizations, Peach Jam fell during the same week as the 2021 NBA Draft. Because of that, very few decision makers were actually in the building and some teams didn't even send scouts to the event in North Augusta, SC as they were all hands on deck in preparation for Draft day. At Peach Jam, Sharpe averaged 22 points per game and was surging up the rankings … [Read more...] about NBA Draft: Kentucky’s Shaedon Sharpe made a challenging evaluation even more difficult

Ranking the top 25 Power Five college football coaches entering the 2022 season
CBS Sports Graphic When we ranked Power Five college football coaches last year, there wasn't much change in the top 25. Whether it was nobody crashing and burning or soaring higher than ever -- or none of our voters wanting to take anything that happened during a pandemic season too seriously -- things remained largely the same. There were only two new entries in our top 25 at this point 12 months ago. There are a lot more changes this year. Three of the coaches in last season's the top 25 lost their jobs following the 2021 season, including a top-10 coach in Dan Mullen and another who won a national title in 2019, Ed Orgeron. That kind of turnover played a role in the shakeups all over our list of 65 coaches, and this year we have six coaches cracking the top 25 for the first time. Of those six, three were ranked 50th or lower last year. How did they climb so high, so quickly? Well, volatility will always play a role in the process because our group of voters, consisting … [Read more...] about Ranking the top 25 Power Five college football coaches entering the 2022 season
In return to Yale, Nathan Chen goes back to his future – OlympicTalk | NBC Sports
When Nathan Chen returns to Yale late this summer after a two-year leave of absence, his housing arrangement will make Chen think he is going back to the future. “I feel like I’m a returning first-year,” said Chen, actually a rising junior. He has a room on Yale’s Old Campus, where the residence halls are primarily occupied by first-year students. It is where he lived the first time around after matriculating in the 2018-19 academic year. The difference this time is Chen also wants to feel present on campus in a way he could not during his first two years of college, when he jammed studies and an international figure skating career into days that seemed too short. He wants to find a fun extracurricular activity or two that aren’t related to skating. He wants to take guitar lessons. Chen, majoring in statistics and data science, wants to focus more on his classes, to “make sure the learning is truly, truly ingrained in me rather than trying to get quickly through it, just … [Read more...] about In return to Yale, Nathan Chen goes back to his future – OlympicTalk | NBC Sports
2022 NBA Mock Draft: Magic can’t pass on Chet Holmgren’s skills and size after winning No. 1 pick in lottery
USATSI The full 2022 NBA Draft order is officially set after the lottery's results were revealed Tuesday night in Chicago, lining up the first 14 picks and giving us for the first time a clear picture of the order for all 58 of this year's selections just over one month away from the draft. There's thus far been no consensus about which prospect will go No. 1 -- or 2 or 3 or 4, for that matter -- but Orlando winning the lottery means for now we've projected a frontcourt player in our latest mock for them. In fact, a big man represents picks No. 2 (to OKC) and No. 3 (to Houston) in this post-lottery mock. That's subject to change over the next few weeks as more teams dig into this class and make their final evaluations, but Gonzaga 7-footer Chet Holmgren for now remains the No. 1 projected pick after Tuesday's lottery, followed by Jabari Smith and Paolo Banchero before Jaden Ivey -- our No. 1 prospect -- goes off the board at No. 4 to Sacramento. Will that order change? … [Read more...] about 2022 NBA Mock Draft: Magic can’t pass on Chet Holmgren’s skills and size after winning No. 1 pick in lottery

Behind the ‘Cinderella-like’ rise of elite transfer QB Cameron Ward
A day after Incarnate Word All-American quarterback Cameron Ward entered the transfer portal, Ward went to the airport to take a visit to Liberty. Before he could reach the gate, a security officer walked up to him. Ward couldn’t figure out why at first and then the officer asked a question. “I see you just got an offer from Indiana, where are you going right now?” The moment still feels shocking to Ward. Yes, he’s been one the best quarterbacks in the FCS the last two seasons. But that sort of we-know-your-face fame, especially away from campus, is a foregin experience for a quarterback who had almost no recruitment to speak of coming out of West Columbia (Texas) High School in the 2020 class. “It’s just crazy,” Ward told 247Sports. Ward ranks as the No. 9 overall player in the transfer portal and the No. 3 quarterback, behind only former five-star prospects Caleb Williams and Quinn Ewers . They were recruiting superstars, the No. 1 overall quarterbacks in their … [Read more...] about Behind the ‘Cinderella-like’ rise of elite transfer QB Cameron Ward
Bengals’ Joe Burrow opens up on Super Bowl loss, jokes that Cincinnati will run the Wing-T offense this season
USATSI Joe Burrow lived up to his "Joe Cool" moniker during his first public interview session since Super Bowl LVI. The Bengals' 25-year-old quarterback showed off his quick whit when asked about how much he expects the Bengals' offense to change in 2022. "I think we're going to completely overhaul the offense," Burrow joked. "We're going to maybe run the Wing-T a little bit. Maybe our division can start watching Georgia Tech or something." Burrow acknowledged that he expects some changes to Cincinnati's offense moving forward (more on that later). He also offered some insight into the play that seemingly everyone was talking about in the aftermath of the Bengals' 23-20 loss to the Rams in Super Bowl LVI. Perhaps the most viral play from the Super Bowl the was the image of Bengals receiver Ja'Marr Chase open downfield after Jalen Ramsey had slipped on Cincinnati's final offensive play. Instead of resulting in a potential game-winning score, the game ended with … [Read more...] about Bengals’ Joe Burrow opens up on Super Bowl loss, jokes that Cincinnati will run the Wing-T offense this season

Asheville School and City Rocks big man Gus Yalden , No. 93 in the Top247, has committed to Wisconsin. Yalden, a Wisconsin native, chose the Badgers from a list of four finalists that also included Nebraska, Rutgers, and College of Charleston. “I’ve been a Wisconsin fan since I was a kid,” he told 247 Sports. “Growing up in Appleton, it kind of just led me to be a fan of the Badgers.” “It’s just the whole fan base, the community, the school. It means way more than basketball to me. I’ve known it was home since the beginning and I’m really excited to get on campus and officially be a Badger.” Yalden developed a national reputation and picked up numerous high-major offers as just a freshman.
