That was a rematch from when Anisimova beat Osaka in the third round of this year's Australian Open. Even though Osaka didn't get the result she hoped for, she still said she left Paris in a much better way than last year. Osaka pulled out of the 2021 tournament before the second round due to mental health concerns. Returning this year wasn't easy, but she was happy she decided to do it. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz are all on the same side of the bracket. If things work out as expected, the top seed and defending champion Djokovic could face Nadal in the quarterfinal round. This would be a good opportunity for Nadal -- a 13-time French Open champion -- to make Djokovic pay for defeating him in last year's semifinals. It marked the Serbian tennis star's first Grand Slam appearance of 2022 after missing the Australian Open due to being unvaccinated against COVID-19. Djokovic ended up defeating Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka, 6-3, 6-1, 6-0, during their opening round match on Monday. Osaka took a big step forward on Friday when she took part in a press conference ahead of this weekend's competition. "For the most part, I think I'm OK," she said. Last year, the former world No. 1 said that she experienced a "huge waves of anxiety" talking to the media. After winning the first round, she stopped fulfilling her media duties and was hit with a $15,000 fine. She then pulled out of the tournament. The mental health issues didn't just appear in 2021.
