Reigning USAC Midget champion Chris Windom will make his NASCAR Cup Series debut in the dirt race at Bristol Motor Speedway on March 28. Windom will drive the No. 15 Rick Ware Racing Chevrolet with sponsorship from NOS Energy Drink. “I’m very excited for this unique opportunity with RWR,” Windom said in a release on Tuesday. “Not only to race in the NASCAR Cup Series, but to be a part of the first time they race Bristol on dirt is really cool. Hopefully, my previous dirt experience will give me a head start out of the gate.” Last season, Windom became the seventh driver to claim the USAC Triple Crown – winning a title in all three of its national series: Midget, Sprint Car, and Silver Crown. Bristol dirt race weekend will include heat races, Friday practice
Next month’s NASCAR dirt race weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway will include Friday practice sessions and Saturday heat races, the track announced Wednesday . The NASCAR Cup and Camping World Truck Series will each have two, hour-long practice sessions on Friday, March 26. Then, on Saturday, March 27, both series will hold four, 15-lap heat races to determine the starting lineup for their main events on Saturday night for the Trucks and Sunday afternoon for Cup. Sunday’s Cup race will mark the first on dirt for NASCAR’s premier division since the 1970 season. Saturday’s Truck race will be the first of their two dirt races this season. The series will also visit Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway on July 9. Kyle Busch to compete in Bristol Dirt Nationals
Kyle Busch will get an early start on racing in the dirt at Bristol Motor Speedway next month. The two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion is entered for races March 19-20 at the Bristol Dirt Nationals. Bristol hosts the Cup and Camping World Truck Series for dirt races the following weekend (March 27-28). His teammate will be Jonathan Davenport, a three-time Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series national champion, in the No. 49 entry.
