U-M's elected leaders voted in December 2017 to pour as much as $130 million into a new fund to target "mining, distressed opportunities, operating businesses, and commodities or production inputs that exhibit attractive upside potential due to valuation dislocations, transactional complexities, or supply and demand imbalances." Marcelo Bielsa held a hastily scheduled briefing on Wednesday evening to address the criticism he has faced since confirming to Sky Sports on Friday before Leeds United’s victory over Derby County that he had dispatched a member of his staff to watch Derby’s training session the previous day. Bielsa spoke for 70 minutes and gave a Powerpoint presentation which turned into a masterclass in points addition for everyone, including critics who have been busily advocating a points deduction. It was received sniffily by some in the national media, and also by Derby’s manager, 106-cap Frank Lampard of England's glorious Golden Generation, who said the Leeds head coach’s depth of analysis was commonplace and implied that Bielsa was both grandstanding and deploying deflection tactics.
