The English captain did not specify the nature of the illness but said he has a full squad to choose from. "...the guys are fit and available for the game tomorrow. That gives us a little more time to name the squad," Root said in the pre-match press conference. "So, everyone in that way is as prepared as they would have liked it for the Test match," he added. Root said assistant coach Paul Collingwood was one of two members worse affected by the sickness. ECB in talks with India and South Africa for women’s tri-series
Indian women's team were suposed to play a bilateral series comprising three ODIs and three T20Is against England which remains postponed for the time being. The women's T20 World Cup in Australia was the last big-ticket event to be held before the COVID-19 pandemic brought all sporting activities to a halt in March and ECB Chief Executive Tom Harrison is hoping there will be some international women's cricket this year if everything goes as per planned. "Ultimately, we will get some international cricket, all being well. The plan is to get some international cricket for the England team later this summer. We're talking to the BCCI and Cricket South Africa about bringing their women's teams over to play a tri-series," Harrison said during the Tuffers and Vaughan podcast. India vs England, 4th Test: Michael Vaughan slams England batsmen for poor batting on perfect pitch
England skipper Joe Root won the toss and opted to bat first, but the batters failed to make the most and lost wickets quickly in the first session of play. Vaughan, who has been quite vocal in his criticism of the pitches used in the series, called this pitch "perfect" and blamed England batters for failing to score runs. Taking to Twitter Vaughan wrote, "England's batting so far worse than any of the last few Tests ... This Pitch is a perfect surface to get a big first innings score ... No spin ... Ball coming onto the Bat ... Very poor Batting so far ... #INDvENG." Left-arm spinner Axar Patel's twin strike and Mohammed Siraj's prized scalp of Joe Root helped India gain an upper hand in the first session. England openers Dominic Sibley and Zak Crawley saw off the first five overs bowled by the Indian pacers -- Ishant Sharma and Siraj, who has come into the side in place of Jasprit Bumrah. However, the introduction of Axar in the sixth over brought immediate reward for the hosts … [Read more...] about India vs England, 4th Test: Michael Vaughan slams England batsmen for poor batting on perfect pitch
England’s batting failings in India exposed again on best surface of series so far, says Nasser Hussain
England's attack faces a tough battle to earn the tourists first-innings parity with India after "another bad day at the office" for the batsmen, says Nasser Hussain. Joe Root's side succumbed to 205 all out on day one of the fourth Test after choosing to bat first, with the hosts closing on 24-1 to trail by 181 runs. Fourth Test scorecard: India vs England Day One in Ahmedabad - as it happened Spinners Ravichandran Ashwin (3-47) and Axar Patel (4-68) did the bulk of the damage, taking seven wickets between them, and, although India will have to bat last, Hussain told The Cricket Show that England cannot afford to fall too far behind in the game. "It was another bad day at the office," said the former England captain. "There was nothing wrong with the pitch this time. "They've had the full spectrum of pitches in this series. They've had two poor pitches - I think we've all agreed on that. Some people have gone easier on India and some people have gone … [Read more...] about England’s batting failings in India exposed again on best surface of series so far, says Nasser Hussain
