Eric D. Lawrence Detroit Free Press Published 6:00 AM EDT Sep 11, 2018 The roar of amateur drag racing heard along Woodward Avenue during the annual Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge could be coming to more locations. Steve Beahm, the head of passenger car brands for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in North America, tells the Free Press that two additional locations in the country are under consideration for similar events. Beahm said discussions about the possibility came up during a recent recap meeting following this year's Roadkill Nights, a week before the Woodward Dream Cruise. He declined to say which areas are under consideration. "There were some conversations about are there some other areas within the country where this event might fit," Beahm said. "There are a couple of areas that we feel like this event could be a success so we’re looking at it, but nothing to announce yet.” Read more: Dragsters have smokin' good time at Roadkill Nights See what … [Read more...] about Dodge considers taking Roadkill Nights drag racing to more cities
Dodge charger or dodge challenger
Eric D. Lawrence Detroit Free Press Published 9:43 AM EDT Sep 7, 2018 The U.S. auto sales numbers for August appeared almost shocking for several iconic cars — Dodge Challenger down 26 percent from August 2017, Dodge Charger down 45 percent, Ford Mustang down 35 percent. The numbers, out just after Labor Day, appeared to bolster reports suggesting that declining performance car sales might be imperiling "a nostalgic, high-horsepower cruising culture that dates to before the 1950s." Could the end really be at hand for the American muscle car — and are millennials to blame? Not exactly, although muscle cars are certainly not immune to the changing tastes that have elevated trucks and SUVs over cars in the minds of many consumers, according to several industry watchers. The four vehicles that fit the muscle car category most directly — the Challenger and Charger, the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro … [Read more...] about Charger, Mustang, Challenger sales fall: What’s the cause?

The Detroit News Published 11:05 p.m. UTC Jul 19, 2018 All Hellcat is about to break loose at the drag strip. The first family sedan to boast 707 horsepower and a demonic 204 mph top speed, it only seemed a matter of time before the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat would inspire an NHRA Funny Car dragster. Emphasis on “inspire.” The 2019 Charger SRT Hellcat Funny Car that will make its debut at the Dodge Mile-High NHRA Nationals outside Denver this weekend shares nothing with its production parent except wicked looks and raw speed. True to the production Hellcat’s outrageous horsepower specs, the Funny Car — the drag-racing world's second-fastest class after Top Fuel — will pump out more than 10,000 horses (that’s not a misprint). Where the showroom four-door Charger Hellcat will hit 60 mph in a sports car-like 3.4 seconds, its Funny Car offspring will cross the finish line of a 1,000-foot drag race (less than two-tenths of a mile) in … [Read more...] about Charger Hellcat births 10,000-hp Funny Car dragster
