Some 90 minutes before kickoff, doubts about whether the Hall of Fame Game could be played because of shoddy field conditions began to make the rounds on social media . But for the thousands of fans at Tom Benson Stadium in Canton, Ohio, they had no idea. Instead, they eyed the scoreboard "countdown until kickoff" clock fully expecting the Packers and Colts to face off in a mostly meaningless game that, at the very least, signified the return of football. In fact, according to the Indianapolis Star 's Gregg Doyel, those in charge Saturday night didn't notify the crowd of the game had been scrapped until Pro Football Hall of Fame president took the microphone just after the scheduled 8 p.m. ET kickoff. "What happened to the fans at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium over the next 80 minutes was no accident," Doyel wrote . "It was intentional. It was deceitful. It was the Pro Football Hall of Fame keeping alive the façade, using its scoreboard to show a countdown to an 8 p.m. … [Read more...] about Angry fans at the Hall of Fame Game felt misled as they bought souvenirs, food

Rumor: Kevin Durant to meet with Nets owner Joe Tsai
Kevin Durant trade talks have stalled out. With the Celtics , Heat and everyone else. That’s no secret, it has been that way for weeks, and there are multiple reasons for it. That starts with the time of year — a lot of executives are on vacation — to the perception the Nets’ asking price for the two-time Finals MVP is too high. Teams look at what the Nets are asking for (starting with an All-Star level player under 25) and don’t think they could put together an offer the Nets would accept while remaining a contender. For example, that’s why the Heat won’t include Bam Adebayo in talks, and why the Pelicans have not put Brandon Ingram in any offer. Teams are not getting in a bidding war and upping tier offers. Durant had been radio silent, but now comes a rumor that Durant and Nets owner Joe Tsai will sit down and talk face-to-face, via Steve Bulpett at Heavy.com . “What I’m hearing is that KD is going to meet with the owner this week,” the source told Heavy … [Read more...] about Rumor: Kevin Durant to meet with Nets owner Joe Tsai
Report: Durant reiterates trade demand, gives owner Tsai ultimatum: Me or Nash, Marks
Kevin Durant still wants to be traded, telling that directly to Nets’ owner Joe Tsai in a face-to-face meeting over the weekend in London, plus giving him an ultimatum of me or coach Steve Nash and GM Sean Marks. The meeting was “professional,” according to Shams Charania of The Athletic, who broke the news . Durant stated he does not have faith in the team’s direction, sources said… The Nets have direct knowledge of the reasons behind Durant’s request, sources said, and understand that the 12-time All-Star will continue to be resolute in his stance. Durant is believed to want a change of scenery heading into his 16th season. If this situation drags out, will Durant skip Nets training camp? (Yes.) Could the Nets seriously consider firing their coach and GM to keep their superstar happy? (Tsai hasn’t acted like a guy wanting to go that route, but in the NBA never say never.) Durant trade talks have stalled out because teams were not offering what Marks and the Nets … [Read more...] about Report: Durant reiterates trade demand, gives owner Tsai ultimatum: Me or Nash, Marks
‘Disappointed’ Daniel Suarez says he secured ‘millions’ to keep SHR ride – NASCAR Talk | NBC Sports
HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Daniel Suarez was “disappointed” and “extremely surprised” about losing his ride at Stewart-Haas Racing after his business team apparently delivered “several millions” in sponsorship that the team wanted. “A lot of people have worked very hard on this team to try to put everything together and unfortunately it wasn’t enough,” Suarez said Friday before Cup practice at Homestead-Miami Speedway. “We needed a few months. We had to find a big amount of money to keep the ride for next year. “My group of people, friends and a lot of people at Stewart-Haas Racing went to work and we actually did a pretty good job. We pretty much got the goal but unfortunately part of the money wasn’t on the table at this point. It was going to come a few months later, and it wasn’t enough. It was a little unfortunate. It was a surprise. I was as shocked as you guys are probably right now.” Suarez said he learned Monday night about SHR’s decision to replace him with Xfinity driver … [Read more...] about ‘Disappointed’ Daniel Suarez says he secured ‘millions’ to keep SHR ride – NASCAR Talk | NBC Sports
Ryan: Kevin Harvick has put his own spin on the Dale Earnhardt legacy – NASCAR Talk | NBC Sports
HAMPTON, Georgia – Imitator of “The Intimidator?” No, and that was always the blessing, curse and confounding part of following in the footsteps of a true icon. Kevin Harvick was unfairly thrust by some into the role of unwitting savior after winning in only his third start in NASCAR’s premier series. When he held three fingers out the window for the second time on an Atlanta Motor Speedway victory lap Sunday, Harvick was saluting the memory of Dale Earnhardt — but he also was celebrating the peace of being a middle-aged champion who took a long, arduous path to a surprising state of grace and zen nearly 17 years after the overwhelming circumstances of his first Cup victory. No one could ever be “The Man” in NASCAR that Earnhardt was, but Atlanta reminded us in many ways how Harvick has become a man in full. “I’ve been waiting a long time, because 2001 was very confusing,” Harvick, 42, said of winning in the ride he inherited three races after the seven-time champion died on … [Read more...] about Ryan: Kevin Harvick has put his own spin on the Dale Earnhardt legacy – NASCAR Talk | NBC Sports
JaMychal Green on role with Warriors: “Be a dog. Do the dirty work.”
Two seasons ago, JaMychal Green thrived as the first big man off the bench in Denver, behind Nikola Jokic and Paul Millsap . However, last year his role shifted, with Green expected to play more as a pick-and-pop backup five and provide more rim protection. That change, combined with a wrist injury he played through, had things going sideways. Green’s 3-point shooting fell from almost 40% to 26.6%, and he’s not great at being a primary rim protector. Green looked out of place and played like it. Now signed in Golden State, Green knows his role this season and said Monday he will thrive in it. Via Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area . “Just coming in and play hard,” Green said Monday when asked about his role with the Warriors. “Be a dog. Do the dirty work, help [Draymond Green] out with the dirty work and knock down shots and play defense. Just coming here to play hard.” With Otto Porter and Gary Payton II moving on to bigger paydays , the Warriors have reworked … [Read more...] about JaMychal Green on role with Warriors: “Be a dog. Daniel Suarez trying to find his place in Silly Season – NASCAR Talk | NBC Sports
RICHMOND, Va. — Daniel Suarez , expected to lose his ride at Joe Gibbs Racing after this season , says he has options but isn’t willing to reveal them. Suarez is looking for a ride because reigning Cup champion Martin Truex Jr. and crew chief Cole Pearn are expected to move to the No. 19 team with Furniture Row Racing closing operations after this season. That leaves Suarez on the outside at JGR. “I don’t really have anything good to say,” Suarez said after qualifying fifth Friday. “When you don’t have anything good to say, it is better not to say anything.” Suarez removed a reference Joe Gibbs Racing from his Twitter profile this week. Asked about that Friday, Suarez laughed and said: “I’m a driver. I like my family. I like classic cars. That’s what I put in there.” As for where he might race next year, Suarez said: “We’re talking to a lot of people. I’m sure good things will come our way.” Stewart-Haas Racing co-owner Gene Haas said last week at Las … [Read more...] about Daniel Suarez trying to find his place in Silly Season – NASCAR Talk | NBC Sports

The announcement also comes 41 days before the Daytona 500. Nets owner Joe Tsai says front office, coaching staff “have my support”
Kevin Durant reportedly gave Nets’ owner Joe Tsai an ultimatum : Me or coach Steve Nash and GM Sean Marks. Tsai’s response: Our front office and coaching staff have my support. We will make decisions in the best interest of the Brooklyn Nets. — Joe Tsai (@joetsai1999) August 8, 2022 Durant requested a trade from the Nets a month ago, confirmed it over the weekend , and apparently will get his wish. Eventually. Durant is reportedly unhappy with the direction of the Nets. However, Marks and Tsai made sure Durant had a voice and stake in the moves that were made, from signing DeAndre Jordan to a $40 million contract (and playing him over Jarrett Allen , then eventually trading Allen), to letting go of coach Kenny Atkinson and eventually replacing him with Nash, to trading a lot of picks and promising young players to land James Harden . Durant and his backers can try to claim plausible deniability, but Durant was in on the decision making with this team … [Read more...] about Nets owner Joe Tsai says front office, coaching staff “have my support”
