How does the Atlanta Falcons 2016 NFL Draft class look three years later? Coming into 2016, the Atlanta Falcons had several areas that they needed to address. During free agency, they were able to add Pro Bowl Center Alex Mack. General Manager Thomas Dimitroff assumed Mack would be the final piece of the starting offensive line and then he would add a few depth pieces. Going into the 2016 NFL Draft, the theme was “Fast and Physical.” Head coach Dan Quinn wanted to replicate the pieces he had in Seattle and thought going after fast big hitters was the key to doing so. After losing their initial 5th round pick for pumping in fake crowd noise at the Georgia Dome, the Falcons made one draft day trade in 2016 when they sent the 50th overall pick to the Houston Texans in exchange for the 2016 52nd overall and the 2016 195th overall (in the sixth round). With those selections, the Falcons took LSU linebacker Deion Jones and San Jose State Guard Wes Schweitzer. The 2016 draft … [Read more...] about Atlanta Falcons 2016 NFL Draft Retrospective and Regrade

The 2016 NFL Draft, at least three years out, has produced some incredible players at the top end. Six of the first seven players drafted have already made the Pro Bowl, and both of the top quarterbacks — Jared Goff and Carson Wentz — are franchise guys. That draft class was more than just a stellar first round, though. It was a deeply talented draft, from second-round standouts like Michael Thomas and Xavien Howard to solid later-round contributors like Jordan Howard. The draft steal is sometimes a nebulous concept, but really it’s simple: a steal doesn’t have to come from the seventh round. Even first-round picks can be a steal if they’re a sure-fire Hall of Famer (and at least a couple players from 2016 could be on that trajectory, though it’s too early to make THAT judgment definitively). Tom Brady wasn’t a steal just because he was a sixth-round pick; he was a steal because he turned into a franchise quarterback (there’s also the … [Read more...] about Who was the biggest steal of the 2016 NFL Draft?
Every NFL season there’s a cycle of players who are either handed massive extensions or face the chopping block. This time the focus is on the 2016 class. It’s been three years since the 2016 NFL Draft, which means those players’ rookie contracts expire soon. The big names either have already been signed to extensions or will be soon, like Carson Wentz and Dak Prescott. But there are also players who face uncertainty heading into their fourth season. Some will be playing in hopes of a sizable payday either by their current team or a new one in free agency. Others will be trying to show they are worthy of the role expected of them — or just that they can just stay on the field. Here is a look at six players from the 2016 NFL Draft class who have something to prove. These guys will all be facing the pressure to perform but for different reasons. That he can stay healthy: Will Fuller Despite being one of top scoring threats for the Houston Texans, Will Fuller has … [Read more...] about 6 players from the 2016 NFL Draft with something to prove
Carson Wentz got his nine-figure payday. Dak Prescott won’t be far behind. Jared Goff has another year and a half to come to terms on a megadeal that would cement his status as the Rams’ quarterback of the future. In three seasons in the league, that trio has helped swing the balance of power in the NFC. Wentz and Goff both played significant roles on teams that won conference championships. Prescott has been the force that eschewed a rebuild in Dallas and pushed the Cowboys to a pair of division titles. But are they the best players to come out of a potent 2016 NFL Draft class? To find out, I factored in three years of production and their still-growing potential moving forward — with a stronger emphasis on total performance and how these players have made their teams better. Their ability to stay on the field is a factor as well; injuries and off-field concerns also played a role in the rankings. Three seasons ago, a deluge of talent made the leap from college … [Read more...] about Who’s the best player from the 2016 NFL Draft — so far?
Pete Prisco gave the Arizona Cardinals a 'B' back in 2016, but now says he was way off on that by Pete Prisco @PriscoCBS Apr 1, 2019 at 8:16 am ET • 22 min read You truly can't grade an NFL draft class until three years later. It's just not fair to do so right after the draft, yet we all do it.So that's why it's become an annual thing for me to regrade a draft three years after it occurs. In doing so, I look back at my immediate draft grades to use as a gauge, including my comments. In those immediate grades, I offer a letter grade, best pick, questionable move and third-day gem. It's fun to look back at team misses and hits in each category, but especially my own.In the 2016 NFL Draft, three teams landed "A+" marks in the regrade for how they picked players. They were the Atlanta Falcons, Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys. Yes, the Bengals. The only failing grade goes to the Arizona Cardinals, who had six picks in the draft and not one … [Read more...] about Regrading the 2016 NFL Draft: Cowboys, Falcons, Bengals earn high marks, Cardinals drop from ‘B’ to an ‘F’
