ENGLAND TOUR OF INDIA, 2021 by Rob Johnston • Last updated on Share Tweet We do have to get better on these pitches and we do have to accept there's places where we could have improved: Silverwood © Getty Head coach Chris Silverwood says he will sit down with Joe Root to discuss whether England should make any official representations about the standard of the third Test pitch in Ahmedabad. The game concluded early in the final session of the second day, the shortest Test match since 1935, as both England and India struggled with a surface that spun appreciably. India lost seven wickets for 46 on the second day - with Joe Root taking 5 for 8 - while England were then hustled out for just 81 in their second innings. In all, 17 wickets fell in the first two sessions of day two. Although both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma both said the pitch was good for batting at the conclusion of the game, others, including Yuvraj Singh … [Read more...] about Silverwood, Root to discuss on making official representation over Ahmedabad pitch

Virat Kohli Come Out And Defended Motera Wicket as if it’s a BCCI Thing: Alastair Cook
Former England captain Alastair Cook took a sly dig on Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s stance on the Motera pitch for the third Test match. The Indian captain defended the dusty Motera track and claimed batsmen were not up to the standards. During the post-match presentation, Kohli said “It was bizarre that out of 30 wickets, 21 were too straight balls. It was down to a lapse of concentration or playing for turn and beating on the inside.” Disagreeing with Kohli’s assessment, Cook said batting was near impossible on the newly laid strip at the refurbished stadium in Ahmedabad. “Virat Kohli’s come out and defended the wicket almost as if it’s a BCCI thing — it cannot possibly be the wicket. Yet it was so hard to bat on that. So hard,” Cook told Channel 4. “Take the wicket out and blame the batsmen?” Cook asked, referring to Kohli’s assessment of the pitch that it’s a “very good pitch to bat on — especially in the first innings”. The third Test match between India and England was … [Read more...] about Virat Kohli Come Out And Defended Motera Wicket as if it’s a BCCI Thing: Alastair Cook

Tsonga beaten on return in Montpellier
Tsonga last played in the first round in Melbourne last January, when he retired from his clash with Alexei Popyrin, owing to a back injury. And the former Australian Open finalist was unable to make it a winning return at a tournament where he lifted the trophy in 2019. Korda eased to a 6-4 6-2 win, with the only home success of the day coming from Ugo Humbert while Lorenzo Sonego saw off Hugo Gaston. Popyrin, who stunned David Goffin in the first round at this year's Australian Open, was a winner over Christopher Eubanks at the Singapore Tennis Open. Lloyd Harris beat Popyrin in the second round in Melbourne, but they will not meet again in this tournament after the South African was undone by wild card Adrian Andreev. Yoshihito Nishioka, Maxime Cressy and Taro Daniel also prevailed. India vs England 2021: Bell feels visitors guilty of thinking too far ahead, gone wrong with rotation policy
England fell to an embarrassing 10-wicket defeat in the third Test against India to go down 1-2 in the four-match series, while also getting knocked out of contention from the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final in June. "I think England have been guilty of thinking too far ahead of having a squad for the Ashes when actually this is bigger than the Ashes, this is probably as big as the Ashes," Bell told 'ESPNcricinfo'. "Why are we rotating in the biggest Test series you are playing in? For me that's where England have gone a bit wrong," he added. The 38-year-old, who featured in 118 Tests for England, feels for the English players for whom the tours to India and Australia can make or break careers. India vs England 2021: Looking at bigger picture, rotation policy has merit, says James Anderson "These tours, certainly for Englishmen coming to India or going to Australia are the pinnacle. They make your careers, you look back and if you win in those conditions they are … [Read more...] about India vs England 2021: Bell feels visitors guilty of thinking too far ahead, gone wrong with rotation policy
