The playoffs, so far, haven’t been terribly thrilling. Except for a few notable exceptions, like last week’s Saints win over the Eagles, the teams that won never really left the outcome in doubt. The Divisional round was especially good for the favored teams — all of them won, setting up a pair of conference championships between the first and second seeds. So what about this weekend? If you came here looking for an upset this weekend from our wise panel of experts, well, temper your expectations. The majority of our panel this week sees both the No. 1 seeds, the Chiefs and the Saints, winning this weekend and punching their ticket for a Super Bowl. But that’s not ironclad. The Patriots are underdogs at the Chiefs this weekend. Those poor, poor Patriots. Will they ever catch a break? Our panel does not believe they will, not this week anyway. There are two picks for New England, one of which is the coin toss. Are we not giving the Patriots enough of a … [Read more...] about NFL picks 2019: Experts foresee a Chiefs vs. Saints Super Bowl matchup

1. Los Angeles Chargers: Imagine being an NFL executive contemplating the playoffs with the very real possibility that the Chargers, a team that can’t fill a tiny soccer stadium for its “home” games, could be playing deep into January. That’s got to be at least a little unnerving for the ratings watchers on Park Ave. The NFL’s best team and nobody loves them. It’s like Kirk Van Houten turned “Can I Borrow a Feeling?” into a No. 1 single, but was still, you know, Kirk Van Houten. Further proving the complete lack of cosmic justice and absence of reason in the NFL this season, the Chargers are currently the FIFTH seed in the AFC. They beat the Chiefs and are tied for the best record in the conference, but the tiebreaker currently goes to Kansas City. That could change. MVP-candidate Philip Rivers and Co. face the Ravens this week and wrap up the season against the Broncos. The Chiefs, meanwhile, are in Seattle before a December preseason … [Read more...] about NFL power rankings, Week 16: Where do we get tickets for a Chargers vs. Saints Super Bowl?
Philadelphia Eagles football heads on the road for the first time in 2018, as the Birds will take on the 2017 runner-up New England Patriots in their second preseason game at Gillette Stadium Thursday night. There aren't much in the way of starting positions that are up for grabs, but there are some interesting depth battles to watch, such as at running back, linebacker, cornerback, and punter (against himself). Earlier this morning, we pointed out five things to watch tonight. Like in the first preseason game, Carson Wentz will not play. Unlike the first preseason game, it is expected that Nick Foles will. To be determined if Tom Brady, who will also play, will finally congratulate Foles on his Super Bowl win. The Eagles' starters got a small amount of playing time in the first preseason game. They should get somewhat more tonight. Feel free to comment on all the scintillating preseason action below. … [Read more...] about Live updates/open thread: Eagles vs. Patriots (preseason game)
Stephen Oh has his finger on the pulse of the Patriots and Eagles by CBS Sports Staff 2m ago • 2 min read Week 2 of the 2018 NFL preseason kicks off Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET as the New England Patriots host the Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch of Super Bowl LII. The Patriots are 3.5-point home favorites, with the over-under for total points scored set at 43. Before you make your Eagles vs. Patriots picks, listen to what SportsLine data scientist Stephen Oh has to say. When it comes to the Pats and Eagles, Oh is especially hot, going 14-5 on picks involving New England and 10-4 on picks involving Philadelphia. That includes the Super Bowl, a game the Eagles won 41-33. Oh nailed Super Bowl picks on the point spread (Philly +5.5) and money line (Eagles +200). We can tell you he's leaning toward the over for the Eagles-Patriots rematch Thursday, but his much stronger play is on the side. He's sharing it over at SportsLine.Oh knows neither team played its star … [Read more...] about Eagles vs. Patriots odds: Picks for NFL Preseason Week 2 from expert who’s 24-9 on New England, Philadelphia games
After dropping their first preseason game 31-14 to the Pittsburgh Steelers (with the important players playing well), the Philadelphia Eagles will head north to take on the New England Patriots in preseason game No. 2. If memory serves me correctly, I believe the Patriots are the team the Eagles beat in the Super Bowl. Here are five things we'll be watching. 1) Tom Brady vs. the Eagles' first-team defense In the Super Bowl, Tom Brady and the Pats carved up the Eagles’ defense : 613 total yards 500 passing yards 29 first downs 8.5 yards per play 5.1 yards per carry 10.0 yards per pass attempt While the Eagles’ first team D looked great in the first preseason game, they dominated a Steelers offense that was missing Ben Roethlisberger, LeVeon Bell, and Antonio Brown. Brady and the Pats offense will be working on whatever it is they want to accomplish. They likely won’t be employing the same concepts that gave the Eagles such a hard time in the Super Bowl. Still, … [Read more...] about Eagles vs. Patriots: Five things to watch
