From being in an advantageous position in the fifth rescheduled Test against England in Edgbaston, the Indian cricket team could not hold their nerve and lost the game by seven wickets. England rode on unbeaten centuries from Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow to register their highest successful chase in Tests of 378 runs. After the loss, experts have opined that the team composition could have been different. Former Indian cricket team player and ex-national selector Jatin Paranjape said that Ravichandran Ashwin could have been picked in the XI. "I don't think so. You can understand why they picked Bumrah as captain; the powers that be must have thought that Bumrah as a captain is a good choice. Sometimes it is better to err on the side of caution, and that in itself turns out to be a better decision," Jatin Paranjape said in an interview to senior sports journalist Jamie Alter . "I can understand why they played Shardul, because he had done well in the Test match at The … [Read more...] about “Like Keeping Your Ferrari Parked In Garage”: Ex-India Selector On Edgbaston Test Playing XI | Cricket News

“Going To Lose Games…”: Jonny Bairstow’s Interesting Take on England’s “Approach” After Edgbaston Win | Cricket News
Riding on unbeaten tons from Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root , England scripted history as the team pulled off their highest-successful chase in longest format to beat by seven wickets at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Chasing a total of 378, Root and Bairstow's 269-run partnership helped England record their fourth successive chase in Test cricket. The Ben Stokes -led side has been playing some aggressive brand of cricket, termed 'Bazball', since the appointment of Brendon McCullum as head coach of the team. Despite winning their last four Tests while chasing daunting targets, Bairstow feels that while England have been playing a positive brand of cricket, the team might also lose games with their approach. "It is great fun at the moment. The last month has been fantastic for the lads and the smiles on their faces when everyone does well is a massive part of it. I am stripping it back to the basics. The last few years have been tough on me but the last few months have been … [Read more...] about “Going To Lose Games…”: Jonny Bairstow’s Interesting Take on England’s “Approach” After Edgbaston Win | Cricket News
Sunil Gavaskar Weighs In On Edgbaston Pitch After England’s Record Chase | Cricket News
The Indian bowling attack was completely dismantled on day and 5 of the Edgbaston Test as the duo of Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow slammed unbeaten centuries to guide England to their highest successful chase in Test cricket as Ben Stokes ' side chased down the 378-run target with 7 wickets in hand. The Indian pacers got no help from the wickets as the England batters made merry on a flat track. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar was asked how this could happen on a pitch where three innings have already been played and whether the heavy roller had a role to play in the pitch offering no help to the Indians bowlers. Gavaskar explained that the Edgbaston pitch has traditionally helped batters as the days progressed. "Well the roller does play a role for the immediate half an hour or so because it flattens the dents or whatever that might be there and there could be quite if you dents if there are fast bowlers who are pounding the ball on the grass. The roller just helps … [Read more...] about Sunil Gavaskar Weighs In On Edgbaston Pitch After England’s Record Chase | Cricket News
England vs India, Edgbaston Test: India Thought They Would Appear And Things Would Just Happen
As the Edgbaston Test came to an end, giving England a fine win that gave them a 2-2 verdict in the five-Test series, one was left wondering what the result would have been, had India played the final Test of the series last year along with the rest, when they had the momentum. But other things take precedence in Indian cricket, one assumes. Nevertheless, even when the side went into the Edgbaston Test, there seemed to be a little bit of an assumption that all they needed to do was to appear, and things would just happen. Couldn’t have been more wrong, as the Indian team brutally got to know. India lost the Test, or began the process of losing, on Day 3 afternoon, when, in spite of a definite edge in proceedings, the batters just could not translate that into anything close to a challenge. It can’t be that the Indian think tank was not aware of the English batters’ ability to run down scores they made it clear time and again against New Zealand so the need to score really … [Read more...] about England vs India, Edgbaston Test: India Thought They Would Appear And Things Would Just Happen
England vs India: Five Reasons Why Jasprit Bumrah-Led Side Lost To Ben Stokes’ Men At Edgbaston
England vs India, Edgbaston: The India team would be more than disappointed with the result of the Edgbaston Test where the visitors possibly won more sessions and were bossing the game for the most part of the Test match. With a lead of 132 runs, the visitors were in the driver’s seat till the second session of the third day’s play and suddenly from there on everything went downhill for the Indian side. Here’s a look at five possible reasons why India lost the Edgbaston Test vs England: Poor batting display: It would be fair to say that the batting let India down in the fifth Test. India were in all sorts of trouble in the first day of the Test and if it wasn’t for Rishabh Pant’s heroics with the bat and Ravindra Jadeja’s stubborn century, the match might have been over well before the fifth day. It wasn’t much different in the second innings either. Once again, the batting failed to come to the party. Cheteshwar Pujara did his job and Pant continued his good run with the … [Read more...] about England vs India: Five Reasons Why Jasprit Bumrah-Led Side Lost To Ben Stokes’ Men At Edgbaston

Time To Drop Virat Kohli?
New Delhi: After dominating world cricket for almost a decade, Virat Kohli is going through an ‘unprecedented’ lengthy lean patch, which is hurting Indian cricket badly and there are doubts over star batter’s cricketing career in the longer run. During his impressive career, Kohli has been one of the most consistent all-format batter, who made jaw-dropping chases and found the safest possible way to score plenty of runs.He was absolutely smashing records after records and was a genuine threat to master blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI and 51 Test hundreds. But, things have gone drastically downhill for Kohli in the last two years. The 33-year old Kohli has gone more than 100 innings in all forms of cricket including IPL without scoring a hundred since hitting 136 in Kolkata against Bangladesh in November 2019. The star batter has often got starts but he hasn’t been able to convert them into big scores. He has even gone past fifty several times since that innings in … [Read more...] about Time To Drop Virat Kohli?

Chicago mayor recommends potential Soldier Field dome, renovations to keep Bears downtown, per reports
Getty Images The Bears are positioned for a future relocation from downtown Chicago to the suburb of Arlington Heights in order to build a new "world-class" stadium . But Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is proposing the city make its own renovations to keep the team in town. A mayoral committee is set to recommend Chicago "explore the feasibility" of adding a dome to Soldier Field, the Bears' longtime open-air stadium, along with other significant updates to the historic venue, per Crain's Chicago Business . Lightfoot has openly floated the idea of enclosing Soldier Field before, most recently in February . But her Lakefront Museum Campus Working Group, established to recommend strategic investments to Chicago's lakefront landmarks, is now expected to formally propose Soldier Field improvements. This would include rebuilding parts of the nearly 100-year-old stadium and potentially selling or granting naming rights to the venue, which has been home to the Bears since 1971. … [Read more...] about Chicago mayor recommends potential Soldier Field dome, renovations to keep Bears downtown, per reports
