India Docked WTC Points, Slips Below Pakistan In WTC Rankings
India have been fined 40 per cent of their match fee and penalised two ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points for maintaining a slow over-rate against England in the rescheduled fifth Test in Birmingham. The two lost points meant that India now have slipped behind Pakistan in the WTC table. Pakistan have a win percentage of 52.38 and have jumped to third while India have a win percentage of 52.08 and thus have slipped to fourth. The two points have made India’s road to the WTC final even more difficult. India have six Tests left, four against Australia at home and two against Bangladesh. India need to win all their games to safely quality for the final. However, Australia are a formidable side and cannot be taken for granted. If India fail to win the series 4-0, they could get into trouble as their win percentage could dip below 65, which will significantly dent their chances of WTC final berth. On This Day In 2005, Australian Spin Maestro Shane Warne Became First Bowler To Take 600 Test Wickets | Cricket News
On this day in 2005, late Australian spin maestro Shane Warne became the first bowler in the history of the game to take 600 wickets in Test cricket. The legendary bowler accomplished this feat during the third Test of the Ashes series against Australia at Old Trafford in Manchester in August 2005. The dismissal occurred in the 42nd over of England's first innings. English opener Marcus Trescothick was batting on 63 when the fifth ball of the over outsmarted him. He was trying to attempt a sweep and the ball touched his body. It then hit the thigh of wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist , who popped in the air to snatch a brilliant catch. Trescothick was gone for 63 off 117 balls and Warne had reached a mountain hard to climb for many bowlers. Mohammad Kaif and Amir Khan added 104 runs for the sixth wicket Getty Images Nagpur: Feb 20, 2012 Mohammad Kaif (56) and Amir Khan (50) cracked twin half-centuries to help Uttar Pradesh notch up a 17-run victory over Indian Railways in a one-day cricket match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Exploiting the early morning life on the wicket, K Upadhaya (4 for 39) and Shailender Gehlot (2 for 29), aided by some shoddy batting from UP batsmen, put Railways in early command. However, Kaif and Amir shared a 104-run sixth-wicket partnership to bring some stability to the batting side but once the duo were dismissed, Railways were once again on top. “Might Be the Guy”: Jayawardene Thinks Pakistan Star Can Dethrone Root As Top Test Batter | Cricket News
Dubai: Sri Lanka legend Mahela Jayawardene has picked Pakistan captain Babar Azam as the cricketer who, he believes, can dethrone England's Joe Root as top Test batter. Root has been ruling the roost at the top of the Test rankings since June, with the Englishman enjoying a fine World Test Championship, and in a rich vein of form under new coach Brendon McCullum. The former England captain has scored more runs than any other player since the turn of the decade, and deservedly claimed the ICC Men's Test Player of the Year award in 2021. "Tough one!" Jayawardena said on the latest episode of The ICC Review, when asked who can dethrone Root from the top spot. "I would say Babar Azam has an opportunity. He's been consistent in all three formats and it shows in his rankings. He's a naturally gifted player, plays in all conditions, he's got the game to adapt as well. "It depends on the amount of cricket, who's playing when and how much but Babar might be the guy." Babar is the … [Read more...] about “Might Be the Guy”: Jayawardene Thinks Pakistan Star Can Dethrone Root As Top Test Batter | Cricket News
