Callum Sheedy: Wales knew choking England enough would see discipline crack

· February 27, 2021 ·

Callum Sheedy says Wales knew England's discipline would crack "if we could choke them enough" after he put the boot into Eddie Jones' team. England conceded a damaging 14 penalties in their 40-24 Six Nations defeat at the Principality Stadium. They imploded during the final quarter when substitute Sheedy kicked three penalties in nine minutes during a 16-point unanswered burst by Wales that meant Triple Crown glory and left them two wins away from a second Grand Slam in three seasons. "It's tough to say whether you are surprised teams give away penalties," said Bristol fly-half Sheedy. "It is like anything - if a team is under pressure, discipline starts to get a bit wavy. England opt against official complaint over referee Jones: Wales got points they didn't deserve "I haven't watched the game back and whether they were, or were not, penalties. I don't really care, to be honest. "We knew if we could choke them enough, they would get ill-disciplined. … [Read more...] about Callum Sheedy: Wales knew choking England enough would see discipline crack

It’s done: Clippers reach agreement with Celtics on a deal to hire Doc Rivers as head coach

· June 23, 2013 ·

Our long national nightmare is over, as the Clippers and Celtics have agreed in principle on a deal that will allow Doc Rivers to become the head coach in Los Angeles. According to multiple reports, Rivers has agreed to a three-year contract worth $21 million to coach the Clippers, which is the same amount he had left on his deal with the Celtics. As compensation, the Clippers are sending an unprotected 2015 first round draft pick to Boston. The deal still requires approval from the league office, although with no players’ contracts tied to this one as they were in previous iterations, it’s expected to go through without issue. It will be very interesting to see now if the Clippers are able to convince the NBA that the acquisition of Rivers came with no strings attached in the form of a side deal for Kevin Garnett or Paul Pierce. While the coach will in all likelihood to be allowed to change teams in exchange for the draft pick compensation, it would be surprising if the two … [Read more...] about It’s done: Clippers reach agreement with Celtics on a deal to hire Doc Rivers as head coach

Rachel Homan runner-up at Canada curling championship while 8 months pregnant

· March 1, 2021 ·

Rachel Homan , while eight months pregnant, skipped a curling team that took runner-up at the Canadian National Championship on Sunday. Homan, Canada’s skip at the 2018 Olympics, led a four-woman team in their first full tournament together to the top ranking and a playoffs bye into Sunday night’s final in Calgary. In that final, Kerri Einarson ‘s team edged Homan’s group 9-7 for a repeat title. Homan finished as, statistically, the second-ranked skip behind Einarson at the event known as Scotties. “Can we talk for a second about skipper over here?” Emma Miskew , a teammate since each were 11 years old, said after the final. “Unbelievable that you curled that well. Think all women should be inspired to do that. It’s just amazing.” Homan is due with her second child in April. “My energy levels are really good, just a few body aches that obviously come with being this far along and trying to have balance on the ice, sliding up and down and even walking,” she said last … [Read more...] about Rachel Homan runner-up at Canada curling championship while 8 months pregnant

Russia names figure skating worlds team; Yelizaveta Tuktamysheva oldest in 14 years

· March 1, 2021 ·

Yelizaveta Tuktamysheva grabbed the last spot on Russia’s three-woman team for the world figure skating championships and is set to become the first non-teen to compete in women’s singles at worlds for the nation since 2013. Russia named its roster for worlds — in Stockholm in three weeks — after a domestic competition this past weekend. It’s led by three-time reigning national champion Anna Shcherbakova , a 16-year-old set for her senior worlds debut. Another 16-year-old, Aleksandra Trusova , all but wrapped up the second spot by placing third at nationals in December (and second among skaters old enough for senior worlds). Tuktamysheva, 24 and the gold medalist at her last worlds in 2015, was seventh at nationals in December. But she was fourth among skaters age-eligible for worlds (and just .38 of a point behind the third age-eligible skater). At last weekend’s Russian Cup Final, Tuktamysheva placed fourth. But the top three finishers are all 14 years old, and thus too … [Read more...] about Russia names figure skating worlds team; Yelizaveta Tuktamysheva oldest in 14 years
