The Committee of Administrators (CoA) currently running football in the country has filed a contempt petition against ousted AIFF president Praful Patel for "interfering with the proceedings" of the Supreme Court which last week ordered elections to the national federation. In the contempt petition, the CoA said Patel "conducted a meeting of the 35 Intervening Member Associations (state associations of the AIFF) with the express purpose of interfering with the proceedings of this Hon'ble Court..." The petition also attached transcripts of the said meeting, which was conducted over Zoom at 11 am on August 8. It said they have "interfered with the administration of justice by committing gross contempt of the orders" passed by the top court. The petition made the plea to bar Patel "from participating in and holding any football related posts forthwith, including and not limited to positions in FIFA and AFC". It also requested the top court to initiate proceedings for contempt of … [Read more...] about Indian Football Administrators File Contempt Petition Against Ex-AIFF Chief | Football News

Former Manchester United star Ryan Giggs headbutted his former girlfriend in the face as she tried to end their relationship, she told a jury Tuesday on the second day of his trial on charges of assault and coercive control. Giggs, 48, who until recently served as coach of the Wales national team, was sitting in the dock at Manchester Crown Court for the trial that has upended his managerial career. The jury has heard that Giggs subjected his former partner, 36-year-old PR agent Kate Greville, to a "litany of abuse, both physical and psychological" and revealed a "sinister side". Giggs denies the charges, which could lead to a five-year jail term. His lawyer, Chris Daw, said earlier the footballer "used no unlawful violence", while conceding that his behaviour "on a moral level was far from perfect". 'Angry' She detailed the evening of November 1, 2020, when Giggs allegedly "lost control" and attacked her as she tried to leave the house they shared. Real Madrid Defeat Eintracht Frankfurt To Win Fifth UEFA Super Cup | Football News
Goals from David Alaba and Karim Benzema gave Real Madrid a 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt and a fifth UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday. While Frankfurt were dangerous, particularly in the first half, Madrid's experience and individual quality saw them through, as it did so often in their victorious 2021-22 Champions League campaign. "It wasn't an easy game, they were entrenched in their own half, but we managed to score and we controlled it well afterwards," Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti told Movistar TV. "At the start of the season, you can't expect the team to be already at 100 percent, but we won and we have started the season well. I believe it can help us achieve better results and winning helps motivate the players." It was a particularly memorable evening for veteran French striker Benzema whose goal took him to 324 for the Spanish side, one more than Raul . Only Cristiano Ronaldo , who scored 450, has more Real goals than Benzema. "Now he's in line … [Read more...] about Real Madrid Defeat Eintracht Frankfurt To Win Fifth UEFA Super Cup | Football News
Barcelona Sell Off Assets To Make Signings In Attempt To Restore Glory Days | Football News
Barcelona's attempts to establish themselves once again as a force in La Liga and the Champions League this season have seen the heavily-indebted Catalans gamble with their future to enable a striking summer spending spree. A year after being forced to let Lionel Messi go as eye-watering reported debts of 1.35 billion euros ($1.39 billion) crippled the club, Barcelona have spent 153 million euros on transfer fees alone to strengthen their squad, with Robert Lewandowski the most notable new arrival. "This is a really exciting season. Nothing would give me more pleasure than to make all the fans happy," coach Xavi Hernandez said before last weekend's 6-0 friendly win over Mexican side Pumas UNAM. "That means winning trophies. That is our main objective." After three years of struggles, on and off the field, the summer has seen hope return to the Camp Nou, with president Joan Laporta talking of an exciting "new era" when the club unveiled Lewandowski as a Barcelona player. … [Read more...] about Barcelona Sell Off Assets To Make Signings In Attempt To Restore Glory Days | Football News
Wake Forest football QB: Mitch Griffis named starter with Sam Hartman out indefinitely due to condition
Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman is out indefinitely with a non-football related medical condition , as the Demon Deacons announced Wednesday. Hartman will be back this season, but Mitch Griffis is the starter in the meantime, head coach Dave Clawson said. Hartman returned to Wake Forest for his fifth year, after a breakout campaign in which he set the Demon Deacons' single-season record by passing for 4,228 yards. Griffis, a third-year Demon Deacon, split a lot of the No. 2 reps with Kern during the spring. Griffis did play in four games last year but only attempted two passes. He only appeared in contests that had a three-score (or more) scoring margin, mostly following both Hartman and another option. Griffis also played in four games as a freshman and threw for 28 yards in both the Duke’s Mayo Bowl and in his collegiate debut against Clemson, tossing a touchdown in the latter. Thanks to redshirt eligibility and the extra year granted to athletes … [Read more...] about Wake Forest football QB: Mitch Griffis named starter with Sam Hartman out indefinitely due to condition

Michigan football: Replacing Aidan Hutchinson, David Ojabo biggest question facing Wolverines’ defense
The Michigan Wolverines had a fantastic defense led by Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo in 2021. It helped the team win the Big Ten and get to the College Football Playoff. With both pass rushers off to the NFL, the biggest question posed by The Michigan Insider’s Zach Shaw: How do the Wolverines replace both guys? However, there’s a possibility Jim Harbaugh can find his next star pass rusher with one of the current players he has on the roster. “But under Jim Harbaugh , Michigan has always had stars emerge at EDGE, with every starter ultimately becoming a top-100 NFL Draft pick,” Shaw wrote. “A rotation can be valuable, but at the end of the day the Wolverines are best-served with a player who draws attention, makes plays and scares opposing offensive tackles. Someone stepping up to that level could help Michigan’s pass-rush avoid a drop-off from last season, and they might come away with a nice NFL Draft future as a result.” Shaw then broke down some … [Read more...] about Michigan football: Replacing Aidan Hutchinson, David Ojabo biggest question facing Wolverines’ defense
Pitt football: Pat Narduzzi updates QB battle between Kedon Slovis, Nick Patti
Gone is Kenny Pickett , so the Pittsburgh Panthers hit the reset button at the quarterback position in the offseason. Kedon Slovis transferred in from USC and Nick Patti returned after coming into the spotlight in last year’s Peach Bowl as Pickett prepared for the draft. Pitt's fall camp battle between two quarterbacks is in full swing, and Narduzzi provided the latest update with Greg McElroy on Always College Football . "Yeah, we're not ready to (name a starter) at this point," Narduzzi said. "But we've got, really, two guys that are battling it out at that quarterback (spot). Kedon Slovis , as you mentioned, (is) a kid that was here for spring ball. He's done an outstanding job. He's a tremendous person. I just like how he presents himself every day in our offices and our meetings and our field. He leads the right way. And then the other guy's Nick Patti, who played in the first series — I guess first two series — of our Peach Bowl loss. And if he plays the entire … [Read more...] about Pitt football: Pat Narduzzi updates QB battle between Kedon Slovis, Nick Patti
Pitt football: QB Nick Patti reacts to Panthers bringing in USC transfer Kedon Slovis
Former USC quarterback Kedon Slovis transferred to Pittsburgh this offseason and is competing with redshirt senior Nick Patti for the Panthers' starting job in 2022. Pitt played its spring game this past Saturday and Patti opened up on what he thought about head coach Pat Narduzzi bringing in Slovis. "You know, I didn't really think much about it," Patti said. "Like I said, I'm a competitor. And more competition for me, the better. I like to have competition, and I think it just makes me better as a player and as a person. And I think when you get complacent and you don't have someone pushing you, then that's when you don't succeed as well. And I think that's something that I did for Kenny (Pickett) last year was just push him every day and ask him questions and give him my input on stuff. And I think that's a little bit of a tribute to his success." Patti has appeared in 12 career games for the Panthers, completing 42 of 67 pass attempts (62.7%) with three touchdowns and one … [Read more...] about Pitt football: QB Nick Patti reacts to Panthers bringing in USC transfer Kedon Slovis
USC football: NIL collective launching against school’s wishes, report says
A landmark NIL initiative is coming to USC football. A donor-run name, image and likeness (NIL) collective is coming to the Trojans program, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times . This comes on the heels of SMU reportedly putting an NIL collective in place for football and basketball players Monday. However, the Times' report states this group of donors and fans is going against the USC administration’s wishes. “When USC partnered with an outside media company to launch BLVD LLC, the hope was that its unique approach to facilitating name, image and likeness endorsement deals for Trojan athletes would help stave off the rise of a donor-run collective — and keep USC out of the crosshairs of any future NCAA crackdowns,” Ryan Kartje wrote. “But less than two months later, The Times has learned that a group of deep-pocketed USC donors and diehard fans are proceeding with their own NIL operation against the school’s wishes. The group plans to soon launch ‘Student Body … [Read more...] about USC football: NIL collective launching against school’s wishes, report says
