Picking the best college football team in each state entering the 2022 season

August 8, 2022 by www.cbssports.com Leave a Comment

College football is one of the biggest and most popular sports in the country, though it's regional in its roots. Intra-state rivalries like the Iron Bowl, Egg Bowl and Old Oaken Bucket provide bragging rights for residents and fans for 365 days. Simply put, state pride has been the foundation of the sport for more than a century. Teams like Clemson and Georgia have dominated their in-state rivals recently, while the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry has been fairly even for the better part of a decade. "Talking season," as legendary coach Steve Spurrier famously named the period leading up to the season, is coming to a close. With that in mind, it's time to make our picks for the best team in each state. These picks are based on a wide variety of factors, including recent success, rivalry results and hope for the future. Alabama -- Alabama: The Crimson Tide boast the best record in the sport since 2008 and have won six national titles under coach Nick Saban. They have the … [Read more...] about Picking the best college football team in each state entering the 2022 season

AP Top 25: Florida Gators, FSU football both unranked in preseason poll for first time since 1974

August 15, 2022 by 247sports.com Leave a Comment

The Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles football programs combined to make history Monday when the preseason Associated Press Top 25 poll came out . Neither team was ranked in the initial rankings, entering the fall, and it has been quite a long time since that happened. The last occurrence in which both teams were unranked to start the season happened nearly 50 years ago — 1974, according to the AP’s Ralph D. Russo. On the Florida end of things, Billy Napier takes over as head coach after coming over from Louisiana. The Gators could be on a fast-track rebuild in 2022 if dark-horse Heisman candidate Anthony Richardson puts it all together at quarterback in what should be his first full season as the starter. “Anthony — there’s no question that his confidence and comfort level with the verbiage, with the communication, I think he’s more concise and we’ve seen him be much more accurate,” Napier said . “The old adage, ‘We’re all on the same page,’ I think … [Read more...] about AP Top 25: Florida Gators, FSU football both unranked in preseason poll for first time since 1974

The glory was brought to India by the Women’s Fours team comprising Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia and Rupa Rani. They beat South Africa 17-10 in the gold medal match. From the start, the Indian quartet kept themselves ahead of the South Africa team, one of the pedigreed outfits in the Commonwealth Games, with consistent rolls. There were pockets of defence from the South African ladies but India kept their nerves in crucial junctures to keep their tryst with the gold. Till the End 10, India and SA were fought neck to neck and the scoreline read 10-10 but thereafter the Indian women broke free and gained crucial points in the last 5 Ends to land India a maiden medal in lawn bowls, a gold no less. India started the match with a lead before South Africa fought back to make things 2-2. India kept dominating their opponents as after End 7, the score read 7-2 in their favour. Anthony Barr had his choice of two teams to pick from, but in the end, the four-time Pro Bowl linebacker has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys , the team announced. Barr, who reportedly received interest from the Washington Commanders this offseason, was deciding between the Cowboys and the Denver Broncos , according to NFL Media. The Cowboys are getting a player who not too long ago was one of the NFL's top linebackers. He was a Pro Bowler each year from 2015-18 as a member of the Minnesota Vikings . Injuries, however, have limited Barr's availability over the last two seasons. He played in just two games in 2020 and was on the field for 11 games in 2021. LOOK: Tom Brady gets roasted on Twitter for his pregame Super Bowl outfit

MINNEAPOLIS -- They don't hand out an award for the best-dressed player at the Super Bowl, but they did, Tom Brady probably would have won it on Sunday. The Patriots quarterback showed up to U.S. Bank Stadium in a outfit that Gisele may or may not have picked out for him. MVP in the house. #GoPats pic.twitter.com/NsUpcl1adI — New England Patriots (@Patriots) February 4, 2018 Although the trenchcoat made sense, because it was minus-2 degrees in Minnesota when Brady arrived at the stadium, Twitter was not impressed with his outfit choice. One person thought he looked like the Terminator, which kind of makes sense because he destroys almost every team he plays on the football field. Tom Brady needs your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle. pic.twitter.com/5xxhVBsyL7 — Nick Miller (@NickMiller79) February 4, 2018 Another Twitter user thought Brady was auditioning for a Zoolander sequel. Super Bowl 2018 final score: Eagles win first Super Bowl title, top Patriots in thriller

February 5, 2018 by www.cbssports.com Leave a Comment

The Eagles are Super Bowl champions. Go crazy, Philadelphia. One of the most unforgettable Super Bowls in history saw a Patriots fourth-quarter comeback, but it was the Eagles who scored the decisive touchdowns, tacked on a field goal, and came up with a huge strip sack of Tom Brady to put the game out of reach. A late Hail Mary attempt by Brady came up just short, and the Eagles and their fans started celebrating the team's 41-33 win behind a masterful performance by Nick Foles and a huge fourth quarter by the Philadelphia defense. You can check out all the action in our live blog of the game below. … [Read more...] about Super Bowl 2018 final score: Eagles win first Super Bowl title, top Patriots in thriller

The New England Patriots sent a valuable Super Bowl gift to Donald Trump

August 22, 2017 by www.cbssports.com Leave a Comment

We can add Donald Trump to the list of world leaders who can officially say they have a Patriots ' Super Bowl ring. The team confirmed to CSN New England on Monday that Trump was recently given a Super Bowl LI ring. The Patriots decided to give Trump a ring because they were to the first championship team to visit the White House after Trump had taken office. Ex-White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci told Reddit that Trump's plan is to put the ring in his presidential library one day. The Patriots sending a ring to Trump isn't a huge surprise. Team owner Robert Kraft, coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady have all been outspoken supporters of Trump over the past few years. On the day before the election in November, Trump mentioned that Brady had called him and that Belichick had written a letter to Trump congratulating him on a "tremendous" campaign . Of course, Brady and Trump might not be on the best of terms right now considering … [Read more...] about The New England Patriots sent a valuable Super Bowl gift to Donald Trump

Here’s how Vladimir Putin stole a Super Bowl ring from the Patriots’ Robert Kraft

February 3, 2017 by www.cbssports.com Leave a Comment

As every player in the NFL knows, it's not easy to get your hands on a Super Bowl ring. If you want a ring, you either have to play for the team that wins the Super Bowl -- or you can do what Vladimir Putin did, and just steal it. That's right, you read that correctly: The president of Russia has a 'hot' Super Bowl ring. It all started in 2005, when Patriots owner Robert Kraft was in Russia with Sandy Weill, a friend who was the president of Citi group at the time of the trip. Kraft had just received his ring for the Pats' win in Super Bowl XXXIX, so he decided to show the ring to Weill. After seeing it, Weill had what turned out to be a horrible idea: "Show the ring to Putin." Kraft actually did an interview about the ring for an episode of NFL Films' upcoming series called 50 Rings, 50 Days , so we'll let him finish the story. Robert Kraft only has 3 of his 4 SB Rings. Vladimir Putin has the other. How did this happen? #TheRingIsTheThing … [Read more...] about Here’s how Vladimir Putin stole a Super Bowl ring from the Patriots’ Robert Kraft

Todd Bowles: Dolphins tampering with Tom Brady “has nothing to do with us” – ProFootballTalk

August 3, 2022 by profootballtalk.nbcsports.com Leave a Comment

Getty Images While the Dolphins were stripped of a pair of draft picks for tampering with quarterback Tom Brady and former Saints head coach Sean Payton, neither Brady nor Payton were punished. Brady, of course, is still playing for the Buccaneers after his brief retirement in the spring. So head coach Todd Bowles was asked for his reaction to the news on Wednesday. He didn’t have much of one. “The league took care of it. It has nothing to do with us ,” Bowles said in his press conference. “We try to keep outside noise to a minimum. And there’s nothing to be said on that front because I really don’t know anything about it.” The league’s investigation found that the Dolphins “had impermissible communications with both Mr. Brady and his agent during and after the 2021 season, while he was under contract to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Those discussions began no later than early December 2021 and focused on Mr. Brady becoming a limited partner in the Dolphins and possibly … [Read more...] about Todd Bowles: Dolphins tampering with Tom Brady “has nothing to do with us” – ProFootballTalk
