The Padres have been connected to a number of high-profile names over the past week — Manny Machado, Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto — and MLB.com’s Jon Morosi now adds that they’re also considering free-agent lefty Gio Gonzalez. The Mets, too, have maintained contact with Scott Boras regarding Gonzalez, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports (via Twitter).Gonzalez, 33, has made 31 or more starts in all but one season dating back to 2010, with the lone exception being a 2014 campaign in which he took the ball 27 times. Last season, in 171 innings between the Nationals and Brewers, the two-time All-Star logged a respectable 4.21 ERA but did so with his lowest K/9 (7.8) and highest BB/9 (4.2) marks since cementing himself as a big league starter. Of course, a year prior, Gonzalez tossed 201 innings of 2.96 ERA ball with 8.4 K/9 against 3.5 BB/9.Earlier this winter, the Padres were linked more to younger rotation options, as their goal at the time appeared to be to add … [Read more...] about Report: Padres, Mets among teams interested in Gio Gonzalez

But how long will he actually stay there? All eyes will certainly be fixated on the Heisman Trophy winner, eagerly awaiting his decision between football and baseball. I don’t have the answer as to what sport he will choose, but if recent videos making rounds on the internet over the past week featuring Kyler Murray working out with football star Antonio Brown and a football-heavy highlight video posted from Murray’s Twitter account are any hint, things may not be looking good for his future in green and gold. But enough about Murray, that’ll be something to dissect more thoroughly when the time comes. There are plenty of other non-Kyler … [Read more...] about A’s Mailbag: Puk’s status, radio deal, Gio Gonzalez reunion?

The Shattuck Avenue mainstay, in business since 1961, underwent a massive renovation after a 2015 fire, emerging in 2017 as a trendy pizzeria with a craft cocktail bar and indoor bocce ball. According to Eater SF, owners Giovanni and Anna Schipani had sold the restaurant to three UC Berkeley alumni, who worked with the Farm League Restaurant Group on the remodeling project. Anastasia Schipani, daughter of the original owners, worked as a bar manager and bartender for the new enterprise and told the East Bay Express that it just never quite became lucrative enough to keep going.” She added: “I wish the end would have been different, but the restaurant had a long run.” Gio’s Pizza closed quietly in late … [Read more...] about After 57 years, Gio’s Pizza in Berkeley shuts its doors
