2023 NFC Championship: Eagles vs. 49ers position-by-position advantages, where each team has the edge
USATSI For much of the 2022 NFL season, the Eagles and 49ers have stood tall as the apparent class of the NFC. Philadelphia's 13-1 start paved a relatively smooth path to the No. 1 seed. And San Francisco has now won 12 straight, with rookie quarterback Brock Purdy unbeaten in his first seven starts replacing an injured Jimmy Garoppolo . Set to square off in Sunday's NFC Championship Game, these contenders have also been among the conference elite for a while. Philly is making its seventh NFC title bid since 2001, racking up more conference championship appearances than all but the Patriots during that stretch. The 49ers, meanwhile, are in the NFC Championship Game for the third time in four seasons. We know both teams are talented. But which side is best suited to move on? Living in two worlds, Camden Pulkinen eyes first US Championships medal
Camden Pulkinen’s life has gotten rather more difficult since last August. “About tenfold more difficult,” he said. For the previous six years, when he lived and trained in Colorado Springs, Pulkinen had a five-minute drive to a rink where the elite figure skaters had almost unlimited ice time. He had finished high school online and then had taken in-person and online college courses at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs essentially on his own schedule. . When I spoke to him early last week, that life seemed a distant memory. Now he is up at the crack of dawn to get from Columbia University’s Manhattan campus to the Chelsea Piers Sky Rink, where he begins his daily training between 8 and 8:30, and the ice time available to him ends at 11:20. That trip involves 14 stops on the 7th Avenue subway and then a mile-long walk to the rink, and it takes between 50 and 55 minutes. When his training ends, Pulkinen does the trip in reverse to begin his day as a sophomore at the … [Read more...] about Living in two worlds, Camden Pulkinen eyes first US Championships medal

Manchester City vs. Arsenal live stream: FA Cup prediction, TV channel, how to watch online, start time
Getty Images Arsenal's visit to Manchester City serves as the highlight of the FA Cup fourth round weekend but in truth it may serve as little more than an appetizer for their tussle at the top of the Premier League. The Gunners hold a five-point lead over Pep Guardiola's side, who they will face at the Emirates Stadium on Feb. 15, and a win in the cup could give them the belief to hold out at the top of the table. City have not beaten Arsenal, the most successful club in the competition's history, in the FA Cup since 1904 and were beaten 2-0 in the 2020 semifinal. However, that was a rare victory for Mikel Arteta over his former boss. Guardiola has not lost a Premier League meeting with Arsenal. Here is how you can watch the match and what you need to know: Viewing information Date: Friday, Jan. 27 | Time: 3 p.m. ET Location: Etihad Stadium -- Manchester, United Kingdom Live stream: ESPN+ Odds: Manchester City -138; Draw +275; Arsenal +290 (via Caesars … [Read more...] about Manchester City vs. Arsenal live stream: FA Cup prediction, TV channel, how to watch online, start time

Ben Simmons’ lack of consistent aggression leads to late-game benching, looming questions for Nets
Former teammates Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid squared off against each other for the first time since Simmons was traded from Philadelphia to Brooklyn last February on Wednesday night. The matchup was highly anticipated and the game lived up to the hype as the Sixers pulled out a 137-133 victory over the Nets in front of a raucous crowd at the Wells Fargo Center. Simmons, however, spent the final eight minutes and 57 seconds of the game glued to Brooklyn's bench, as coach Jacque Vaughn opted to go in a different direction due, in part at least, to Simmons' overall lack of aggression -- a concerning trend that has followed Simmons from Philly to New York. Despite playing over 16 minutes, Simmons went scoreless in the first half against the Sixers while attempting just a single shot. Then, it was like someone reminded him at halftime that he's 6'10" and super athletic because he looked like a different player in the third quarter. He came out aggressive and actually looked to … [Read more...] about Ben Simmons’ lack of consistent aggression leads to late-game benching, looming questions for Nets
Kofi Kingston continues to build his Hall of Fame legacy with another feat as he prepares for the Royal Rumble
WWE Kofi Kingston's creativity can often overshadow the quality of his accomplishments. Kingston enters the 2023 Royal Rumble, an event where he has become a comedy cornerstone, on the heels of a unique WWE Hall of Fame accomplishment. Kingston has been tasked with the unusual challenge of surviving eliminations in the annual event by the skin of his teeth since 2012. Kingston -- playing a grown man's version of the floor is lava -- has pogo-sticked on an office chair, performed a handstand, been caught mid-air by Big E and more to delay defeat. Kingston will participate in the 30-man Royal Rumble match at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday and he's expected to flex his creative muscles for another miraculous moment. While Kingston is the most prolific performer of the in-peril spot, he isn't the originator. Dramatic survivals are tied to the fabric of the Rumble and before Kingston, John Morrison developed a reputation for his ability to narrowly avoid disaster. … [Read more...] about Kofi Kingston continues to build his Hall of Fame legacy with another feat as he prepares for the Royal Rumble
NHL Power Rankings: Oilers are ascending, thanks to Connor McDavid’s sensational season
CBS Sports After reaching the Western Conference Finals last season, there was a lot of pressure on the Edmonton Oilers to make another deep playoff run this year. The team got off to a shaky start in 2022-23, but it has the best player in the world on its roster. Despite some of the questions about the Oilers' goaltending and depth, Connor McDavid has been able to cover those up by scoring at a rate not seen in the post-lockout era. Through 48 games played, McDavid has already scored 40 goals and tallied 88 points. He has the Oilers riding a six-game winning streak. McDavid is on pace to finish the regular season with 68 goals, 82 assists, and 150 points. The NHL hasn't seen numbers like that since Mario Lemieux notched 69 goals and 161 points in the 1995-96 season. Edmonton may have some personnel deficiencies, but those don't matter when McDavid is averaging almost two points per game. As McDavid leads the Oilers up the Pacific Division standings, here are the … [Read more...] about NHL Power Rankings: Oilers are ascending, thanks to Connor McDavid’s sensational season
2023 NHL All-Star Game: Grading the Reverse Retro jerseys
Getty Images Last week, the NHL unveiled its jerseys for the 2023 NHL All-Star Game at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Fla. The league went with a Reverse Retro approach this season, so let's see whether it worked. Over the past few years, every NHL team has introduced two Reverse Retro jerseys, and they have largely been a hit with fans of every team. Because of that success, the NHL chose to take that route by redesigning the jerseys from the 1994 All-Star Game in order to give them a look more appropriate for South Beach. The updated away jersey features a white torso in the shape of a star with the old-school Western Conference logo in the center. Black and pink piping separates the bottom of the torso and the sleeves, which are covered in a neon blue The home jerseys, which belong to the Eastern Conference in this instance, feature a black star-shaped torso with neon pink and blue piping and a white accent at the bottom of the torso and sleeves. ⭐️ Inspired by … [Read more...] about 2023 NHL All-Star Game: Grading the Reverse Retro jerseys
