Lions-Bills in late December was always going to be a tough sell. That's played out this week, as tickets were available on the secondary market for as little as $6 as of Thursday. Even though there are no playoff implications, there is plenty for Bills fans to pay attention to Sunday. That starts with Josh Allen and the continued development of the offense. On to this week's mailbag we go ... @atv3 asks: Even though he’s injured (and it appears to be a very serious concussion at that), how much counsel does Derek Anderson (and now Matt Barkley) lend Josh Allen day to day? Do you see either back next season to help in the quarterback room? Jay: The best answer I can give is “a lot.” Here’s what Allen had to say about it Wednesday: “I definitely think we were a different team before Derek got here. The presence that he’s had in our locker room and on our offense has been tremendous. Then, Matt comes in, he’s kind of the same way. They just know … [Read more...] about Bills Mailbag: How much has Derek Anderson’s presence helped Josh Allen?

Marcio Jose Sanchez/Associated Press LOS ANGELES — Fair or not, there's an impression that when a team acquires LeBron James, it is getting a de facto head coach and general manager. Per ESPN's Brian Windhorst, "When James is running the point, he rarely looks toward the bench to receive play-calls from coach Luke Walton. Even when he sees them, the scouts say, he ignores them and runs the play he prefers." When the Los Angeles Lakers needed a backup center behind JaVale McGee, a league source told ESPN's Dave McMenamin that James Jones, the Phoenix Suns' interim GM, "Did LeBron a solid" in buying out Tyson Chandler. Jones and James are longtime friends and winners of multiple championships together. Since the Lakers added Chandler on Nov. 6, they've had the third-best defensive rating in the NBA at 102.2 points allowed per 100 possessions. Now Joe Vardon of The Athletic reports that "James would like to get Carmelo Anthony to Los Angeles." ESPN's Ramona … [Read more...] about How Much Power Does LeBron James Already Have in L.A.?

Coach Bill Belichick and the Patriots have managed to keep the terms of Belichick’s contract relatively under wraps throughout his tenure in New England. But recent speculation that the 65-year-old could be on the hunt for a new coaching gig — coupled with Jon Gruden’s reported 10-year, $100 million deal with the Oakland Raiders — has generated heightened interest surrounding just how much Belichick earns per year. According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, Belichick brings home more than $10 million annually. Pro Football Talk corroborated Mortensen’s sources, specifying that Belichick is thought to make $12.5 million per year. Unsurprisingly, both reported figures are considerably higher than Belichick’s estimated payout from his initial contract with the Patriots in 2000. According to the Hartford Courant, Belichick’s first deal in New England was scheduled to average more than $2 million annually over five years. Owner Robert … [Read more...] about How much money does Bill Belichick make per year?
For a significant stretch of NFL history, about 2007 to 2015, few tailbacks across the league elicited fear from opposing defenses quite like Adrian Peterson. Seven Pro Bowls. No. 12 on the NFL’s all-time career rushing list (12,276 yards). Second on the all-time single-season rushing list (2,097 yards). The guy is a no-brainer first-ballot Hall of Famer. But how much gas does he have left in the tank? Peterson, 33, signed a one-year contract Monday with the Washington Redskins to bolster a position group stripped by injuries — Derrius Guice (ACL), Semaje Perine (leg) and Byron Marshall (leg). Denver travels to faces Washington in its third preseason game Thursday night for a first-look at Peterson in a Redskins’ uniform. “He’s a good back,” Broncos coach Vance Joseph said. “Obviously, they’re beat up at the halfback position and he’s a proven back in this league. It’d be tough to get him … [Read more...] about Denver Sports Omelette: Broncos to face new Redskins’ RB Adrian Peterson. How much gas does he have left in the tank?
