USA Today The NFL has been busy tinkering with its schedule over the past couple of years. They took away one preseason game, added an extra regular season game and set up a Christmas triple-header for 2022. The NFL is again expected to try something different in the future, in the form of adding a Black Friday game as soon as 2023, per Sports Business Journal . The NFL is known for its Thanksgiving games, and adding a game on the day after Thanksgiving would just add to its dominance of the week/weekend. Just this past Thanksgiving, the Las Vegas Raiders vs. Dallas Cowboys delivered an estimated 38.531 million viewers, which made it the most-watched NFL regular season game on any network since 1990. After 172 days, NFL football is finally back. The 2022 season kicked off with a the annual Hall of Fame Game showdown between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Las Vegas Raiders. It may be the preseason, but the Raiders were in midseason form at the start of Thursday night's game. Las Vegas scored on its first three drives to take a 20-0 halftime lead. Ahead 6-0, the Raiders scored the season's first touchdown on Ameer Abdullah's eight-yard touchdown less than two minutes into the second quarter. Las Vegas capped off its stellar first half when Jarrett Stidham scored on a 12-yard run with 1:34 left until halftime. Among the Raiders' big early standouts was rookie running back Zamir White, who gained 37 yards on seven carries to go with 27 yards on two catches. That game also gave football fans their first look at No. 1 overall pick Travon Walker in a professional setting. Walker picked up his first-ever sack for the Jaguars, pushing his way into the backfield and then bringing the Raiders' Jarrett Stidham to the ground when he stepped up into the pocket to avoid edge pressure.
