INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Allyson Felix was named to her 10th world championship team, where she will have a chance to run in the mixed relay event and add to her record medal collection. Felix, whose 18 medals are the most in world-championship history, has announced that this will be her final season in track. At last month’s U.S. championships, she finished sixth in the 400 meters and did not qualify for any individual events. But the 36-year-old was named to the mixed relay pool Tuesday when USA Track and Field released its 151-person roster for worlds. The world championships run July 15-24 in Eugene, Oregon. RELATED: Allyson Felix has a retirement date, but her legacy is still evolving Missing from the roster was Sha’Carri Richardson, who failed to qualify for the finals of either the 100 or 200 meters at nationals. “Like Keeping Your Ferrari Parked In Garage”: Ex-India Selector On Edgbaston Test Playing XI | Cricket News
From being in an advantageous position in the fifth rescheduled Test against England in Edgbaston, the Indian cricket team could not hold their nerve and lost the game by seven wickets. England rode on unbeaten centuries from Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow to register their highest successful chase in Tests of 378 runs. After the loss, experts have opined that the team composition could have been different. Former Indian cricket team player and ex-national selector Jatin Paranjape said that Ravichandran Ashwin could have been picked in the XI. "I don't think so. You can understand why they picked Bumrah as captain; the powers that be must have thought that Bumrah as a captain is a good choice. Sometimes it is better to err on the side of caution, and that in itself turns out to be a better decision," Jatin Paranjape said in an interview to senior sports journalist Jamie Alter . "I can understand why they played Shardul, because he had done well in the Test match at The … [Read more...] about “Like Keeping Your Ferrari Parked In Garage”: Ex-India Selector On Edgbaston Test Playing XI | Cricket News
The England litmus test to India’s World Cup readiness
INDIA TOUR OF ENGLAND, 2022 by Kaushik Rangarajan • Last updated on Share Tweet Rohit Sharma has been medically cleared to play the first T20I. © Getty It is the reality of the looming World Cup that India are close to being back at full strength for a T20I series that starts two days after a gruelling Test match. Well almost. Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Virat Kohli will be available only from the second game of the series but that aside, the rest of the squad has been hard at work with a sense of urgency that build-ups to bilateral T20Is otherwise lack in non-World Cup years. India, who have played four T20s (vs Ireland, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire) in the last 10 days, have won 13 of the 15 completed T20Is since tumbling out of the group stages of last year's World Cup, most while not fielding their top players. It's a formidable record in a fickle format, one that is representative of both their baseline … [Read more...] about The England litmus test to India’s World Cup readiness

London: Team India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant broke into the top-5 of the ICC Test ranking for the first time after scoring a century and fifty in the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston, while star batter Virat Kohli dropped three places to 13th after a string of poor performances. Virat Kohli, who only managed scores of 11 and 20 against England in rescheduled Edgbaston Test and slipped out of the top-10 in the ICC men’s Test player rankings. India vs England: Umran Malik “Definitely An Exciting Prospect”, Says Captain Rohit Sharma | Cricket News
Rohit Sharma had missed the rescheduled fifth Test against England after testing positive for COVID-19, but he has now recovered and hence would be leading the side in the first T20I of the three-match series on Thursday in Southampton. For the first game, the likes of Virat Kohli , Rishabh Pant , and Jasprit Bumrah would not be available, but the senior pros would be back from the second game onwards. Rohit addressed a press conference on Wednesday and he spoke on a variety of topics, including the preparation of the team, the fifth Test which India lost by seven wickets, and "exciting prospect" Umran Malik . “Going To Lose Games…”: Jonny Bairstow’s Interesting Take on England’s “Approach” After Edgbaston Win | Cricket News
Riding on unbeaten tons from Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root , England scripted history as the team pulled off their highest-successful chase in longest format to beat by seven wickets at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Chasing a total of 378, Root and Bairstow's 269-run partnership helped England record their fourth successive chase in Test cricket. The Ben Stokes -led side has been playing some aggressive brand of cricket, termed 'Bazball', since the appointment of Brendon McCullum as head coach of the team. Despite winning their last four Tests while chasing daunting targets, Bairstow feels that while England have been playing a positive brand of cricket, the team might also lose games with their approach. "It is great fun at the moment. The last month has been fantastic for the lads and the smiles on their faces when everyone does well is a massive part of it. I am stripping it back to the basics. The last few years have been tough on me but the last few months have been … [Read more...] about “Going To Lose Games…”: Jonny Bairstow’s Interesting Take on England’s “Approach” After Edgbaston Win | Cricket News

Sunil Gavaskar Weighs In On Edgbaston Pitch After England’s Record Chase | Cricket News
The Indian bowling attack was completely dismantled on day and 5 of the Edgbaston Test as the duo of Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow slammed unbeaten centuries to guide England to their highest successful chase in Test cricket as Ben Stokes ' side chased down the 378-run target with 7 wickets in hand. The Indian pacers got no help from the wickets as the England batters made merry on a flat track. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar was asked how this could happen on a pitch where three innings have already been played and whether the heavy roller had a role to play in the pitch offering no help to the Indians bowlers. Gavaskar explained that the Edgbaston pitch has traditionally helped batters as the days progressed. "Well the roller does play a role for the immediate half an hour or so because it flattens the dents or whatever that might be there and there could be quite if you dents if there are fast bowlers who are pounding the ball on the grass. The roller just helps … [Read more...] about Sunil Gavaskar Weighs In On Edgbaston Pitch After England’s Record Chase | Cricket News

Sam Kendricks won’t defend world pole vault title; U.S. roster named
Sam Kendricks , the two-time reigning world pole vault champion, will miss the world track and field championships that start next week due to May 2 knee surgery. Kendricks was among the notables not named to the U.S. roster for worlds in Eugene, Oregon. Kendricks’ agent said the surgery to repair a meniscus was minor. “We thought his recovery would have been much quicker but he’s had a few setbacks,” the agent said. “Sam didn’t feel he was in a position to compete for the medals.” LetsRun.com first reported the reason for Kendricks’ absence. Kendricks did not compete at last month’s USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships, but had the option to petition onto the world team as a reigning world champion (which hurdler Daliliah Muhammad did). His most recent competition was April 8. He flew to Oslo for a June 16 Diamond League meet and withdrew before the event. Kendricks won bronze at the 2016 Olympics, then back-to-back world titles and was expected to challenge … [Read more...] about Sam Kendricks won’t defend world pole vault title; U.S. roster named
