Stokes announced on Monday that Tuesday's clash against South Africa, which ended in a 62-run defeat for England, would be his last in 50-over internationals as he looks to prolong his career in other formats. The England Test captain was unable to leave his mark on his final outing, finishing with 0-44 in his five overs with the ball and scoring just five with the bat. Yet Stokes still finishes as one of just three players to score 2,500 or more runs and take 50-plus wickets in men's ODIs for England (2,924 runs, 74 wickets), alongside Paul Collingwood and Andrew Flintoff. Those numbers are impressive but his World Cup-winning unbeaten 84 in the 50-over final against New Zealand before scoring eight in the Super Over will remain his crowning moment in the format. Buttler, who batted alongside Stokes in that Super Over, was quick to recall his World Cup heroics as the white-ball captain thanked his team-mate for his relentless efforts on a consistent basis. ENG vs IND: Rishabh Pant Breaks 69-Year Old & 72-Year-Old Record In Same Test Leaving Stalwarts Like Dhoni Behind
England vs India, Edgbaston Test: India wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant is on a roll at the moment and etched his name once again in the books of history in the second innings of the fifth Test between England and India at Edgbaston. Pant scored a brilliant counter-attacking 146 in the first innings of the Test that took India out of troubled waters and followed it up with a fifty in the second innings (57) taking his total tally of runs in the Test match to 203. This is the most runs scored by an Indian wicket-keeper in a single Test match outside Asia. By doing so, the 24-year-old went past Vijay Manjrekar , who had scored 161 runs against West Indies way back in 1953. That is 69 years earlier . With another scintillating knock in the second innings, Pant also went past West Indies wicketkeeper Clyde Walcott , who held the distinction of scoring the most runs 182 (14+168*) in 1950 as a wicket-keeper from a visiting team in a Test in England. Pant with a … [Read more...] about ENG vs IND: Rishabh Pant Breaks 69-Year Old & 72-Year-Old Record In Same Test Leaving Stalwarts Like Dhoni Behind
Will KL Rahul be able to reclaim his spot in India’s limited-overs format? Scott Styris has this to say
The team management gave opportunities to several young talented players waiting on the bench in Rahul's absence and almost everyone did well. Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Ishan Kishan, and Sanju Samson were all looked at and they didn't disappoint. Looking at the performances of the players who were given an opportunity in the absence of Rahul, former New Zealand cricketer Scott Styris believes those who came in as a replacement to the senior cricketer have done well, putting Rahul's spot in jeopardy. Team India hasn't missed the services of the Karnataka batter one bit and Styris believes it will not be easy for the right-handed batter to fit into the team's scheme of things as he has missed a lot of cricket in recent times. Scott Styris explains why Suryakumar Yadav makes the job of opposition captain extremely tough "It's a different mindset for players because they don't want to be out and they don't want to be giving other … [Read more...] about Will KL Rahul be able to reclaim his spot in India’s limited-overs format? Buttler needs time to ‘evolve’ England after Morgan era: Root
That is the message from Joe Root, whose 86 at Durham on Tuesday was not enough to stop Buttler's team falling to a 62-run defeat against South Africa. England lost back-to-back white-ball series against India before the defeat in the first of a three-match ODI series with South Africa following Buttler the appointment of Buttler as Eoin Morgan's successor. Buttler has also failed to deliver with the bat since taking the captaincy, passing 50 just once in his past seven innings - including three single-figure scores. Though the wicketkeeper-batter has lost five of his first seven games in charge, Root has backed Buttler as England go through a transitional period following Morgan's retirement. "I think for Jos and a number of the guys who've been around this setup for a couple of years, there's been a lot of change in a very short space of time," said the former Test captain. "And that sometimes can just take a little bit of getting used to and there's not been that … [Read more...] about Buttler needs time to ‘evolve’ England after Morgan era: Root
Captain Elgar big on ‘assets, resources, options’
SOUTH AFRICA TOUR OF ENGLAND, 2022 by Telford Vice • Last updated on Share Tweet Elgar big on 'assets, resources, options' © AFP Words flow freely from Dean Elgar, and his stream of consciousness was typically strong during a press conference on Monday ahead of South Africa's Test series in England. But three words bubbled up more often than most: assets, resources and options. Here's Elgar on Ryan Rickleton, who scored two centuries, a 95 and three half-centuries in eight first-class innings for Northamptonshire in June and July: "The way he's played has been a massive confidence booster for him, and the way we view him now is as a stronger candidate to hold a position in the side. He's done everything the right way; he's put the numbers on the board. He's another asset for us as a squad." And on Anrich Nortje, South Africa's leading wicket-taker in the ODI series against England last month: "The way he bowled in the … [Read more...] about Captain Elgar big on ‘assets, resources, options’

“Would Be A Concern”: Jayawardene On KL Rahul’s Lack Of Game Time Ahead Of Asia Cup | Cricket News
Dubai: Star India batter Virat Kohli is a quality player and has all the tools needed to come out of his prolonged dip in form, said former Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene. Kohli and a fit-again KL Rahul on Monday returned to a 15-member Indian squad for the Asia Cup scheduled to be held in Dubai and Sharjah from August 27 to September 11. Kohli is enduring his worst slump in form and has not scored a century in international cricket since November 2019. His last assignment was the England tour where he could manage just 76 runs from six innings across formats, which included the rescheduled fifth Test, two ODIs and as many T20s in July. The former skipper was rested for limited over West Indies tour and the upcoming ODIs against Zimbabwe. "It is unfortunate what Virat is going through right now at the moment, but he is a quality player," said Jayawardene in the latest episode of The ICC Review show. "I believe Virat has the tools to come out of it (the form … [Read more...] about “Would Be A Concern”: Jayawardene On KL Rahul’s Lack Of Game Time Ahead Of Asia Cup | Cricket News
