Harmanpreet Singh and Akashdeep Singh scored a brace each as the Indian men's hockey team produced a completely dominating performance to rout Canada 8-0 in their third match and jump to the top of Pool B at the Commonwealth Games on Wednesday. Harmanpreet (7th, 54th minute) converted two penalty corners while Akashdeep Singh (38th, 60th) scored two fine field goals. New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced the schedule for the upcoming Paytm Australia and South Africa’s tour of India. India’s international home season 2022-23 will commence with a three-match T20I series against Australia in September and will be followed by a three-match T20I and ODI series against South Africa. Mohali will host the first T20I against Australia with Nagpur and Hyderabad hosting the second and third respectively. The home series against South Africa will begin in Thiruvananthapuram. The 26-year-old Gurdeep’s bronze medal took India’s tally to 17 in the ongoing edition of the Games. Out of the seventeen medals in India’s kitty, a whopping ten have come from weightlifting. Gurdeep took bronze with a total lift of (167+223) 390kgs. In the snatch round, Gurdeep started off with a failed attempt. Starting with a weight of 167kgs, Gurdeep failed on his first attempt. But the Indian lifter made amends on his second attempt as he successfully lift 167kgs. But the Indian lifter once again failed as he attempted to lift 173kgs on the final attempt of the snatch round, ending the round with a lift of 167kgs. Seasoned Indian squash player Saurav Ghosal on Wednesday won his first singles medal at the Commonwealth Games as he beat England's James Willstrop in straight games to take home the bronze medal. Ghosal, had won a silver medal in mixed doubles in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in Australia. It is in fact India's first ever singles squash medal at CWG. Displaying excellent form in the men's singles bronze medal match, Ghosal humbled former world number one James Willstrop of England 11-6 11-1 11-4. Ghosal, 35, took the first game quite comfortably against home favourite Willstrop and extended his domination by winning the second game by a bigger margin to place himself within striking distance of scripting history. Maan went down to Scotland’s Adlington in the final on Wednesday. Earlier, Tulika Maan secured a medal for India as she entered the gold medal match, following a win over New Zealand’s Sydney Andrews in the semifinal via a IPPON (10s1-1). Meanwhile another Indian judoka lost in the men’s 100kg repechage round as he went down to Fiji’s Tevita Takayawa on Wednesday. Maan’s silver-winning feat takes India’s medal count to 16. India now have five gold medals, six silver medals and five bronze medals. Earlier, after weightlifting had been the only discipline to clinch medals in Birmingham, judoka Shushila Devi had handed India the first medal from another discipline.
