Heading into the Breslin Center a young Duke team was a decided underdog. After all Michigan State was the preseason No. 1 team in the country and though the Spartans had already lost twice, the feeling was that MSU's experience and home court advantage would knock the young Blue Devils back. But Duke turned the tables on both the Spartans and the pregame narrative behind two great individual performances from point guard Tre Jones and center Vernon Carey, en route to a complete performance and commanding victory over Michigan State, 87-75. The Blue Devils' 87 points scored were the most surrendered at home by the Spartans in nearly 20 seasons. Jones finished with 20 points and 11 assists while Carey dominated the paint for most of the night, posting a seventh consecutive double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds. With the bookends of the starting five playing well, Duke also got a much needed lift from senior forward Javin DeLaurier. Heading into one of the most challenging weeks of the season, the Duke starting lineup is down a key contributor. Freshman wing Cassius Stanley is considered doubtful for Tuesday night's contest against No. 3 Michigan State after suffering a leg injury in the Blue Devils' 13 point victory over Winthrop. Following the game Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski provided an initial update and prognosis on his starter's injury. "We don’t think it’s a knee injury which is very good," said Krzyzewski. "I think he will be out for a while, hopefully after Christmas. That’s my hope. Something happened with his hamstring so it’s muscular." Following those two games the Blue Devils will enter the winter exam period before returning to action on December 19th against Wofford.
