Urban Meyer addresses future of QB Gardner Minshew
The Jacksonville Jaguars are in the market for a quarterback. But, it’s a particular quarterback that will be available in April: Clemson star Trevor Lawrence . Not only does new head coach Urban Meyer have the No. 1 overall pick and the ability to select a potential generational star, but he has another quarterback on the roster. Gardner Minshew , who’s been an in and out starter over the last two years, has a murky future. However, Meyer addressed the future of Minshew with the media on Friday. “ Urban Meyer asked about whether the Jags are considering trading QB Gardner Minshew : ‘At this point, no,’” Kevin Patra tweeted. In two seasons, Minshew played in 23 games (20 starts) and had 5,530 yards, 37 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, a 62.9% completion percentage and went 7-13 as a starter. While he wasn’t exactly set up for success after the failed Nick Foles experiment in 2019, Minshew didn’t light the world on fire consistently. With the … [Read more...] about Urban Meyer addresses future of QB Gardner Minshew
Kirby Smart addresses Georgia’s WR depth without George Pickens
Back in March, Georgia Bulldogs star wide receiver George Pickens suffered a torn ACL during practice, ending his 2021 season before it even began. Pickens was set to enter his junior season with the Bulldogs. Last year, Pickens had 36 receptions for 513 yards and six touchdowns in eight games. During his freshman season, the 6-foot-3 wideout had 49 catches for 727 yards and eight touchdowns across 12 games. On Saturday, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart met with the media after the Bulldogs’ second spring scrimmage . One of the things he addressed was the wide receiver depth without Pickens in 2021. "The depth has taken a hit obviously with George,” Smart said. “You know Jermaine (Burton) got to do indy (individual drills) today. He's back running around doing some things. He didn't scrimmage but he's doing a lot more and getting more flexibility. Marcus Rosemy is getting close. He's running around doing walkthroughs, doing conditioning. You see him on the side … [Read more...] about Kirby Smart addresses Georgia’s WR depth without George Pickens
Nick Saban addresses his future at Alabama
If last season was any indication, Alabama coach Nick Saban still has a ton of gas in the tank. Saban led the Crimson Tide to another national title in absolutely dominant fashion, and he did it amid a pandemic with every game coming against Power Five competition. Alabama never suffered from significant COVID-19 issues once the season started; Saban showed again that he runs the tightest ship in college football. Still, he’s getting up there in age at 69 years old — he will turn 70 during the 2021 season. So what’s Saban’s plan for the rest of his career? He addressed that on Saturday. “Coach Saban’s here as long as Coach Saban can make a contribution to the team in a positive way, and that’s my commitment to the organization, the university and the players,” Saban said . “If I felt like I couldn’t do the job, for whatever reasons, then I think it would be time for somebody else to do it. So that answers that question. "I don’t have a crystal ball, and the way I … [Read more...] about Nick Saban addresses his future at Alabama
Yurcich, Franklin address progress of new Penn State offense
For those fortunate enough to be in Beaver Stadium for Penn State’s scrimmage action Saturday, they witnessed more than just the Nittany Lions bashing helmets against one another. It was also an indication on just how far along the offense is under first-year coordinator Mike Yurcich . The new uptempo attack was nowhere near perfect, and the mistakes that were made — including a pick six thrown by backup quarterback Ta'Quan Roberson — will be noted in video sessions and (ideally) corrected. But that is kind of beside the point. Because in its 12th of 15 spring practices, the offense was deep into honing on a variety of situational installs. The Lions worked on everything from goal line to back to the goal line to the red zone to two minute to four minute. “I think we've made great progress,” head coach James Franklin said after the scrimmage. “I mean, obviously, there's a bunch of things that we've still got to get cleaned up — operationally, assignment-wise. But … [Read more...] about Yurcich, Franklin address progress of new Penn State offense
