The 2021 college football season will be the first in Knoxville under athletics director Danny White and head coach Josh Heupel . Both from UCF, White brought in Heupel shortly after he himself was hired to conduct a national coaching search for Tennessee’s next football coach. Heupel faces the challenge of inheriting a team coming off a 3-7 season, potentially facing NCAA sanctions, and dealing with a bevy of offseason roster attrition. On Thursday, Heupel made an appearance on "The Jim Rome Show" on CBS Sports Radio to discuss how he plans to resurrect the Volunteers in 2021 and the years to come. “This is the flagship program inside of the state,” Heupel said. “The passion and energy that surrounds our program 365 days out of the year is unmatched anywhere in college football. That’s why they have a 103,000-seat stadium. For me, the great passion and energy has always been in being in a place where you’re building something, you’re creating something. That’s what we’re … [Read more...] about How Josh Heupel plans to steer Tennessee in the right direction

Which of Russell Wilson’s four preferred teams will make a move to get him?
Getty Images With Russell Wilson ‘s agent identifying the four teams for which Wilson would waive his no-trade clause, the message becomes clear. If any of those four teams — Raiders, Bears, Saints, Cowboys — want Wilson, now is the time to make a move. So will one or more of them make a move? The Raiders surely are intrigued. G.M. Mike Mayock has said on multiple occasions over the past two years that the team constantly looks for upgrades at every position, quarterback included. Few people not in Derek Carr ‘s immediate family would say that Russell Wilson doesn’t represent a major upgrade over the team’s incumbent starter. Surely, Mayock and coach Jon Gruden have begun figuring out what they could do to entice the Seahawks, a bitter Raiders rival while in the AFC West from 1977 through 2001, to #LetRussCook for the Baccanal Buffet at Caesars Palace. What would it take? Presumably, Carr plus picks plus maybe some other players. On Friday’s PFT Live , Peter King … [Read more...] about Which of Russell Wilson’s four preferred teams will make a move to get him?
Why Jim Harbaugh, staff are on ‘thin ice’ when it comes to quarterback decision
Spring practice for Michigan football is underway, and everyone has their eyes on the battle at the quarterback position that is in its early stages. Following former starter Joe Milton’s transfer portal entry last week , the two names battling for the job are third-year sophomore Cade McNamara and five-star freshman J.J. McCarthy. McNamara played well in 2020 in place of Milton, and could be a good placeholder for McCarthy as he adjusts to the college game. With that being said, McCarthy could definitely make a push for the job , as Jim Harbaugh said Thursday that the freshman is doing "extremely well" after arriving on campus last month. We’re a long way away from knowing the direction Michigan will go. However, it’s going to be quite the big decision for Harbaugh and the staff, as the head coach signed a four-year extension after months of speculation about his future at Michigan. “When I look at Michigan and when I look at Jim Harbaugh -- we’ve got … [Read more...] about Why Jim Harbaugh, staff are on ‘thin ice’ when it comes to quarterback decision
WATCH: J.J. Redick ejected after tossing ball to ref
The New Orleans Pelicans were without J.J. Redick for most of the fourth quarter on Sunday against the Boston Celtics after the veteran shooting guard was ejected following an exchange with a member of the officiating crew. In the opening seconds of the fourth quarter, the former Duke star was fouled by rookie Aaron Nesmith as he was driving to rim. Redick then bounced the ball toward the sideline to the official, who hit him with the technical foul and tossed him from the game. The bizarre sequence can be seen in the video below. (Crew chief) Josh Tiven has seen enough,” Mark Jones said on commentary. “It looked like Redick tried to throw the ball to him, or at least threw the ball in Tiven’s direction, and Tiven T’d him up. And his night is over. (Redick) might have said something. He … [Read more...] about WATCH: J.J. Redick ejected after tossing ball to ref
