Second-year running back James Conner has been leaned on heavily by the Pittsburgh Steelers during the unexpected absence of Le’Veon Bell, but Bell is expected to return to the team at some point in the next two weeks. Here’s a wild guess: Whoever from the Eagles leaked to ESPN the news of the Fletcher Cox contract restructuring made the “we’re not interested in trading for Bell” part and parcel of the one-two scoop punch in order to establish a position of strength, in the event that trade talks for Bell occur after he returns to the Steelers next week. Jay Ajayi is done for the year, giving the Eagles a big hole at running back. On the team as of Tuesday are Darren Sproles (who hasn't played since Week 1), Corey Clement (who has missed time as well), Wendell Smallwood and Josh Adams. "Jay is a big part of what we've done," Eagles offensive coordinator Mike Groh said Tuesday. "It's an injury that will impact us here until we get the guys back out there. The Eagles placed running back Jay Ajayi on injured reserve Monday after he suffered a torn ACL in Philadelphia’s Week 5 loss to the Vikings, leaving the door open for Bell to fill the void if a deal were to be negotiated. Ajayi, who has 45 carries for 184 yards and three touchdowns, will miss at least eight weeks on IR but sources indicate he could miss the remainder of the season.
