Three Stars 1. Sebastian Aho, Carolina Hurricanes. Aho followed up his five-point effort against Minnesota over the weekend by scoring a pair of goals in the Hurricanes’ 6-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. After recording just one point in his first six games, Aho has been dominant for the Hurricanes and is now up to 28 points in his past 25 games. His assist numbers are still down a little bit this season, but he is now on pace for 48 goals this season. That number would shatter his career high. 2. Marc-Andre Fleury, Vegas Golden Knights. Fleury made his return to the Golden Knights’ lineup on Tuesday night after being away from the team due to a personal matter. He was outstanding in the Golden Knights’ 5-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks, turning aside 28 of the 29 shots he faced. It was his first start since Nov. 23 and he missed a shutout by only 27 seconds. This game quickly turned into a rout as the Blackhawks’ already undermanned defense … [Read more...] about The Buzzer: Aho shines again, Fleury’s big return, Red Wings lose 12th in a row

Kiren Rijiju said India can't afford to lag behind in the international level of competition. © AFP Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju is hoping for a best-ever medal haul from the country's athletes in the Tokyo Olympics, but warned that the blame would lie with all the stakeholders if India fails to put up a good show in the 2028 Games. Rijiju said eight years should be enough for India to prepare its best for the Los Angeles Olympics. "If we can't prepare ourselves for something that far (2028 Los Angeles Olympics) then we have to blame ourselves in terms of policymaking, setting a direction and channelising the resources," Rijiju said at FICCI's "Turf 2019" Global Sports Summit."With the time which is in our hand we must ensure that India is no more a country which is not taken seriously in the Olympics. I will definitely not be satisfied as a sports minister of the country if we don't win medals," he said. The minister said next year's Tokyo Olympics is the immediate target but … [Read more...] about Sports Minister Hopes For “Best-Ever” Performance In Tokyo, Sets Sight On 2028 Olympics
Gerrit Cole is now a New York Yankee. Nine years and $324 million make that so. But though the Yankees are the only team who gets him, they weren’t the only team interested in him. So let’s take a look at what the losers of the Gerrit Cole derby — the Dodgers and the Angels — can do now that they know they’ve lost. Dodgers The Dodgers were hopeful they had a shot due to Cole’s Los Angeles ties. Welp, that didn’t pan out. Which is not a shock. I’m struggling to think of the last time that whole “he’s from [place] so he’ll want to sign with [team near place]” thing worked out. It didn’t happen with CC Sabathia in the Bay Area. It didn’t happen with Mark Teixeira in Baltimore. It didn’t even work out with Brandon Webb in Cincinnati. Money talks, geography walks. But the Dodgers wanted Cole. They wanted to bolster a pitching staff that has relied on an aging and now free agent Rich Hill and on free … [Read more...] about What do the losers of the Gerrit Cole derby do now?

Yes, he was likely going to leave as a free agent when the one year left on his contract was up, but he could help them win a title. As it turned out, both things came to pass.Leonard was terrific for the Raptors, helping them win 58 games in the regular season and earn the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.
