Several England cricketers were under the weather during the fourth Test against India which they went on to lose by an innings and 25 runs. Allrounder Ben Stokes has revealed that he himself suffered weight loss of 5 kgs while his teammates also faced similar issues after a stomach illness in Ahmedabad. “Players are totally committed to England and I think that was emphasised last week when a few of us went down with illness that made operating in 41 degree heat particularly taxing,” Stokes told UK’s Daily Mirror . “I lost 5kg in a week, Dom Sibley 4kg and Jimmy Anderson 3kg among others. Jack Leach was ducking off the field in between bowling spells and spending more time than is ideal in the toilet.” England went on to lose the four-match series 1-3 and also failed to qualify for the final of the ICC World Test Championship which they are to host in June. India will take on New Zealand at Southampton for the title now. However, Stokes said the illness isn’t an excuse and … [Read more...] about IND vs ENG: Ben Stokes Reveals he Lost 5 Kg During 4th Test; James Anderson And Dom Sibley Suffered Weight Loss Too

Langer bemoans slack over rate that burned Australia’s WTC final hopes
WTC by Cricbuzz Staff • Published on Share Tweet Australia's over rate was poor in the Boxing Day Test against India at the end of last year. © AFP Justin Langer has bemoaned Australia's slack over rate at the Boxing Day Test against India which ultimately cost the side qualification to the World Test Championship final. The Australia head coach admitted they hadn't been aware of their over-rate deficiency being bad enough to lose points until after the game. "This might be the silliest thing I've ever said, but our manager Gavin Dovey ... he'd been away, he'd gone home for Christmas to be with his family," Langer told SEN. "It wasn't until after the game that we realised our over rate was down. Now, that's really slack on our behalf. "I remember we were in the team room afterwards and I spoke to Painey (skipper Tim Paine) and Dene Hills, our analyst, about it. Banal as those facts will seem, they are extraordinary. Last time first-class cricket was broadcast live and ball-by-ball in this country, Charl … [Read more...] about South Africa’s new domestic setup eyes cost-cutting, larger player pool
IND vs ENG: England Cricket’s Leadership Power Lies With Eoin Morgan Not Joe Root, So he Gets What he Wants, Says Michael Vaughan
Former captain Michael Vaughan argued that England Test skipper Joe Root should also get to pick his best players irrespective of ECB’s rotation policy, just like limited-overs leader Eoin Morgan ‘gets what he wants’. Vaughan mentioned in his column in Telegraph that England fielded a weakened team in the four Tests against India with the likes of Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali returning home in the middle of the series only to be back for the limited-overs leg of the tour. “It is very clear where the leadership power lies in English cricket – it is with Eoin Morgan and not Joe Root. “I am pretty sure that Morgan went to the selectors and Ashley Giles and said he wanted his best team at all times this year in Twenty20, so he could build for the World Cup in India in October. He has his wish,” the Ashes-winning skipper wrote. India won the series 3-1 to qualify for the World Test Championship final. “I understand rotation. Nobody argues against the fact players need breaks from Covid … [Read more...] about IND vs ENG: England Cricket’s Leadership Power Lies With Eoin Morgan Not Joe Root, So he Gets What he Wants, Says Michael Vaughan
