The Fall sports season in collegiate athletics is going to have a new twist. Fall championships were canceled across the board due to the coronavirus, but football is still alive for now. The biggest question about having no fall sports, particularly football, is the eligibility issue. Will student athletes keep a year of eligibility with no season? That was the biggest question after the winter championships and entire spring seasons were canceled earlier this year. According to a release from the NCAA, Fall athletes will be granted a lost year of eligibility from 2020, but they’ll get it no matter what. “All Fall sport student-athletes will receive both an additional year of eligibility and an additional year in which to complete it,” according to the NCAA. “Student-athletes who do not enroll full time during the 2020 Fall term have flexibility in the progress-toward-degree requirements that must be met for eligibility in future terms.” The full … [Read more...] about NCAA athletes won’t lose eligibility over canceled Fall sports

Virat Kohli May Step Down From Captaincy if India Lose 2nd Test: Ex English Spinner Monty Panesar
India captain Virat Kohli returned to the side after his paternity leave but his comeback was not the best as the hosts were thrashed by England in the first Test at Chennai by 227 runs on Tuesday. Former English spinner Monty Panesar made a bold statement on Kohli as the India skipper faced backlash from all quarters after the embarrassing loss. Labelling Kohli as one of the greatest, Panesar reckoned he could step down as captain if India loses the second Test. In an exclusive with WION, Panesar said: “”Virat Kohli is one of the greatest batsmen of all-time. But the team is simply not doing well under him and we have the result in the last four Tests that India played under him. I think Kohli will be under pressure and more now because Rahane has done phenomenally well as the captain. India have already lost four Tests in a row and if the number goes to five in the next match, then I think he will step down from his role.” Kohli has now lost his last four Tests as … [Read more...] about Virat Kohli May Step Down From Captaincy if India Lose 2nd Test: Ex English Spinner Monty Panesar
Ron Hextall: Flyers ‘not playing poorly’ during 9-game losing streak
A nine-game losing streak. A players-only closed-door meeting. Fans calling for your head coach’s firing. So how are things, Philadelphia Flyers general manager Ron Hextall? “Actually, from the start of the year I’m pretty good with the way our team’s played, pretty good with the way our team’s played the last nine games,” he said after Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to San Jose. “I think tonight we ran out of a little bit of energy. Obviously, results lately are not very good. We deserved better but we haven’t gotten better. Obviously, we’ve got to find a way.” [Flyers drop ninth in a row with heat on Hakstol] Maybe Hextall is looking at the fact that his team has lost five of these nine games in overtime or the shootout, where a single bounce could have earned them the extra point. Or maybe he’s looking at those back-to-back shutouts at the hands of the Minnesota Wild, where nothing was going to get by Devan Dubnyk, who … [Read more...] about Ron Hextall: Flyers ‘not playing poorly’ during 9-game losing streak
The Eagles are quickly losing leverage in the effort to trade Carson Wentz
Getty Images When trying to trade a player, the leverage for maximizing the return comes from one of two places: Having multiple teams pursuing the trade or persuading one or more teams that the current team will keep the player. The Eagles seem to be quickly losing both types of leverage, if they ever had either. The notion that the Bears and Colts are competing for Wentz hasn’t taken root. The rumor of Wentz and a draft pick to the Bears for quarterback Nick Foles , running back Tarik Cohen , and a first-round pick, which came from the Eagles’ sideline reporter for radio broadcasts, feels like an effort to get the Colts to offer more. Really, why would the Bears want Wentz? More importantly, why would Wentz want the Bears? If Wentz fails in Chicago, he’ll hear it just as quickly and just as loudly as he’s heard it in Philly. And if Wentz fails in Chicago, everyone is getting fired. Wentz shouldn’t want to step into that kind of situation. The Eagles, who reportedly … [Read more...] about The Eagles are quickly losing leverage in the effort to trade Carson Wentz

Andy Murray’s first tournament since October finished in a straight-sets defeat to world No 212 Illya Marchenko in the final of the ATP Challenger in Biella, Italy. The three-time Grand Slam champion, now ranked 125, was overpowered 2-6 4-6 in just under one hour and 30 minutes as fellow 33-year-old Marchenko didn't face a break point. Murray was playing on the Challenger circuit after being ruled out of the ongoing Australian Open following a positive test for coronavirus last month. Having won three matches in as many days without losing a set since coming from behind to win his first round, Murray was broken in the opening game of the match. Marchenko broke the Murray serve for a second time to lead 4-1 and sealed the first set on his second set point. Murray was again broken in his opening service game of the second set and later saved a match when serving at 3-5 as he sought to mount a fightback. But Marchenko, who reached a career-high world No 49 in September … [Read more...] about Andy Murray loses to Illya Marchenko in ATP Challenger final in Biella
