India vs England 4th Test, Day 1: England’s batsmen lost the battle of both mind and skills in yet another shoddy performance to surrender the momentum to India with Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin calling the shots on the opening day of the fourth and final Test here on Thursday. After five innings, England crossed the 200-run mark but a total of 205 in 75.5 overs was certainly not what Joe Root had expected when he called it right at the toss on a day which would have ideally been best for batting. There was turn and bounce but the pitch was far from being a minefield that some of the England batsmen save Ben Stokes (55, 121 balls) made it out to be. For India, spinners Axar Patel (26-7-68-4), Ravichandran Ashwin (19.5-4-47-3) and Washington Sundar (7-1-14-1) toyed with the already messed up minds, clueless on how to deal with the conditions. Mohammed Siraj (14-2-45-2) also played his part to perfection with the semi-new and old ball, hurrying the batsmen with sheer pace as … [Read more...] about India vs England, 4th Test: Axar, Ashwin Share Seven Wickets to Give Hosts The Upper Hand

India seize advantage after England’s lower order collapse
ENGLAND TOUR OF INDIA 2020-21 by Cricbuzz Staff • Published on Share Tweet Axar Patel bagged four wickets in England's first innings © BCCI On the eve of the final Test, Joe Root urged his batsmen to be brave and play with freedom. So when the England captain won the toss and chose to make first use of a fresh pitch, he would have hoped for more than 205 from his side. Ben Stokes made 55, Daniel Lawrence got 46 while Ollie Pope fought hard for his 29 and batted out 87 deliveries. Yet, at no stage did they threaten to put India under pressure. Axar Patel picked four wickets while R Ashwin got three. Mohammed Siraj was equally impressive as he accounted for Root and Jonny Bairstow. Zak Crawley and Dom Sibley made watchful starts but were clearly carrying scars from the previous game. Axar took just two balls to strike - as Sibley inside-edged a straight delivery back to his leg stump. Crawley, however, had taken his … [Read more...] about India seize advantage after England’s lower order collapse
India vs England, 4th Test: Day 1 report: Hosts in command after Axar Patel scalps four wickets
England were bundled out for 205 after skipper Joe Root won the toss and decided to bat first. At stumps, India's score read 24/1 with Rohit (8) and Pujara (15) at the crease -- trailing the visitors by 181 runs in the first innings. After a disappointing show with the bat, England got off to a flying start with the ball as James Anderson struck with the third ball of the innings. The pace spearhead trapped Gill (0) in front of the stumps as India lost a wicket with no run on the board. But Rohit and Pujara ensured that was the end of the visitors' joy on the day as they played out the remaining 11.3 overs without losing any wicket. Earlier, Axar Patel hogged the limelight with his four-wicket haul while R Ashwin scalped three as England was bundled out for 205. While it was Mohammad Siraj who picked the all-important wicket of Root in the first session, Ashwin broke the deadlock in the third session as he dismissed Ollie Pope. Pope's wicket sparked a collapse from which England … [Read more...] about India vs England, 4th Test: Day 1 report: Hosts in command after Axar Patel scalps four wickets
Liverpool v Chelsea: Klopp and Tuchel take familiar paths to Premier League showdown
You could be forgiven, though, for thinking there is a much stronger bond between two men from the same country, whose paths from young heavy-metal upstarts to coaching heavyweights have taken eerily similar paths. There are striking facets in each man's style of play too. The high intensity pressing, the devastating speed of the counter-attack, the fluidity of the forwards. PL FIXTURES | RESULTS | POINTS TABLE Now, whether you are a believer in fate or coincidence, the two are set to battle in the Premier League for the first time on Thursday when Chelsea – unbeaten so far under Tuchel – visit Anfield to take on Klopp's Liverpool. With that in mind, let's take a trip down memory lane. BECOMING THE MAINZ MAN "I had fourth-division feet and a first-division head". Even as a player, Klopp always believed his talents were better suited to the touchline than inside the white lines and it was at second-tier Mainz – where he made over 300 league appearances as a … [Read more...] about Liverpool v Chelsea: Klopp and Tuchel take familiar paths to Premier League showdown
No time for blame game, says PCB chief after PSL 2021 postponement
PSL 2021 by Cricbuzz Staff • Last updated on Share Tweet Wasim Khan stressed on the importance of self-policing in bio-secure environments. © AFP Wasim Khan, the chief of Pakistan Cricket Board, on Thursday (March 4) said that this is 'no time to play blame game' following the postponement of the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League, which came at the back of rising COVID-19 positive cases among players and the support staff. The PCB announcement of the decision was soon followed by criticism from multiple franchises who held the board responsible for poorly managing the bio-secure bubble. "There are a lot of emotions at the moment. Franchises have invested a lot of money, everybody has invested time in making PSL work. So there will be a lot of emotion, particularly in the first 24 hours with anything. We fully expect that. Any environment can only work only if everybody is on the same page," Wasim said in a press … [Read more...] about No time for blame game, says PCB chief after PSL 2021 postponement
