In respect of some of the other bowlers in the squad, this summer was a bit here nor there. Mark Wood only played one Test which was a surprise, although Root suggested a few niggles at the start of the summer played their part. Jofra Archer never seemed to fully understand his role in the team and nor did Root and Silverwood. A return of eight wickets at 45 was not particularly encouraging and his career average is going in the wrong direction after that remarkable introduction to Test cricket in last summer's Ashes series. Abid Ali along with skipper Azhar added 50-pus and consolidated the innings. However, with rain and bad light interruptions, they lost the plot and lost a few quick wickets. Babar and Rizwan then added useful runs before rain cut short Day 1. On Day 2, the rain didn’t allow the timely start of Day 2.
