Sevilla and Manchester United drew 0-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday, Feb. 21. Here are all the highlights from the match. Manchester United and Sevilla drew 0-0 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Wednesday in a game that will probably go down as the worst first leg of a round of 16 that has averaged over three goals a match. Then again, this was probably exactly how Jose Mourinho, ever the pragmatist, imagined it. Mourinho made headlines pre-match for leaving Paul Pogba on the bench, but the match belonged to David de Gea, even after Pogba replaced an injured Ander Herrera after only 16 minutes. The Spaniard made eight saves in total, but two in particular, which came in a five minute span at the end of the first half, stood out. The first came after Steven N’Zonzi flicked toward goal following one of Sevilla’s nine first-half corners, a shot de Gea had to dive backward to help over the bar. His next was even better, as he saved Luis Muriel’s header from all of … [Read more...] about Sevilla 0-0 Manchester United: Champions League highlights and recap
Sevilla dominated the day, but Manchester United still managed to just come out of the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie with a scoreless draw on a day where David De Gea was the best player on the pitch. Sevilla simply ran over Manchester United for much of the night. They were the better team in possession, they were the better team at pressuring the ball, and they pushed the ball into dangerous areas better. United had to deal with an injury to Ander Herrera that disrupted their plans, but even before he left the pitch they were struggling to consistently tie together dangerous possessions and make the hosts work for their own possession. But Sevilla couldn’t make the most out of their chances. They outshot Manchester significantly, but David De Gea’s fantastic showing in goal meant that they had nothing to show for it. This wasn’t a case of Manchester United playing organized, defensive football to grind out an acceptable first-leg result … [Read more...] about 3 things we learned as Manchester United hung on for Champions League draw with Sevilla
Ben Hayward Updated at 12:01 p.m. ET Updated at 12:01 p.m. ET It is fair to say that Paul Pogba's move to Manchester United has not worked out as planned. When the midfielder signed from Juventus for €105 million in the summer of 2016, he became the most expensive player ever. On the pitch, however, he has yet to live up to the billing. Now, in his second season back at Old Trafford, Pogba has shown signs of his obvious talent, yet there has always been the feeling that there is much more to come from the France international. And there should be. At the age of 24, the player is approaching his best years. However, with tensions rising between the midfielder and United manager Jose Mourinho in recent weeks, there are now concerns over his long-term future at the club. Pogba believes he is being played out of position by Mourinho, with the Portuguese sticking to what he thinks is best … [Read more...] about Could Real Madrid rescue Pogba from Manchester United?
The Champions League can bring us some interesting, somewhat unexpected matchups, and that seems to be the case with Manchester United heading to Spain to face Sevilla on Wednesday. Manchester United come into this match in wildly uneven form, losing two of their last four without scoring a goal, but also having beaten Huddersfield twice — in the FA Cup and in the Premier League — without conceding a goal. Their form has gone through some pretty hefty swings back and forth all season long, and while on their day they can beat anyone, they’ve also struggled against most of the top six teams in England domestically. But this is Europe, and they’ll be playing a very different team in Sevilla, who have had their own struggles this season in La Liga, but clawed their way through a Champions League group that was ultimately much tougher than advertised. They pulled late comeback draws against Liverpool twice and won both of their other home matches to get this far, … [Read more...] about Sevilla vs. Manchester United 2018 live stream: Time, TV schedule, and how to watch Champions League online
There are huge question marks over Manchester United's ability to challenge for the Premier League title next season. Feature 21 Feb 2018, 21:01 IST This is the question that has been on many Manchester United fans' lips ever since Jose Mourinho took over. After having endured the trauma of David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal being in charge of the club, many United fans had long since been yearning for the enigmatic Portuguese to take over. Most Utd fans think that Mourinho should have been handed the job when Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, but the special one moved to Chelsea and although his spell there ultimately ended in acrimony, he did win the Premier League title there quite comfortably in his second season. Many Utd fans might have been expecting a similar outcome when Jose eventually took over the club in 2016, but unfortunately, that has not materialised as of yet. He did win a creditable 3 trophies in his first season at the club (if you count the … [Read more...] about Can Manchester United win the Premier League in 2018/19?
Harry Sherlock Published on Dec. 8, 2017 Dec. 8, 2017 In the lead-up to West Ham’s game against Manchester City, such was the form of David Moyes’ side, you could find shorter odds on City winning 4-0, than the Hammers winning 1-0. The formbook suggested that City, unbeaten, swashbuckling, arguably the best team in Europe, would run out comfortable winners, racking up a cricket score and performing in a manner befitting a side strolling to silverware. The Hammers were mere cannon fodder. That was how it was supposed to go. Instead, West Ham, previously beleaguered and seemingly bereft, were spirited, and forthright in their approach. They took the lead at the Etihad Stadium, through Angelo Ogbonna's excellent header on the stroke of half-time, and threatened on numerous occasions thereafter. City struck back, equalising through Nicolas Otamendi, and eventually won the game thanks to a … [Read more...] about Manchester United flop Moyes can save his career at West Ham

One of the more intriguing Boxing Day matchups in the Premier League sees Manchester United hosting Burnley, with both teams in mediocre form but with lots on the line. Manchester United are watching their title dreams slowly slip away, with crosstown rivals, Manchester City, pulling further away with every point the second-place Red Devils drop. Now United are at risk of falling out of second place as well, and they can ill-afford to drop any more points right now with Jose Mourinho’s old club Chelsea nipping at their heels. But Burnley have plenty to play for as well. In fact, with a huge win at Old Trafford and favorable results elsewhere on the day, Burnley could end the day even on points with fourth-place Liverpool. Their own form has been a bit scattered of late, though, sporting the same two-wins-and-two-losses in their last five league matches as Manchester United. Leicester City have been having a solid bounceback season after a year of disappointments in their last campaign, and as the holiday season arrives they have a chance to cement themselves as a solid team in the Premier League and turn around a bit of a speed bump in their form, as they’re set to host Manchester United. Of course, Manchester want to drag themselves back into the title race, where their cross-town rivals Manchester City are starting to pull away from the entire league. Coming into the weekend, United are 11 points behind City, meaning that Jose Mourinho and company can’t afford to drop any points at all any time soon, much less against a fallen former EPL champion like Leicester. But the Foxes have their own goals to fulfill, including trying to pull themselves closer to the elite teams in the table. They’re five points behind seventh-place Tottenham Hotspur right now, and Leicester very much want to get back to and then eventually above that tier of … [Read more...] about Leicester City vs. Manchester United 2017 live stream: Time, TV schedule, and how to watch online
