Barcelona president Joan Laporta said Wednesday that Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong is not for sale despite rumours of a departure to the Premier League. De Jong "is a Barca player and unless we have a need or interest in selling him, we don't want to sell him," Laporta said as the club unveiled new signing Franck Kessie. "We know he has offers. If at some moment we were interested, we would consider it, but right now, we're not selling the player," Laporta insisted. De Jong, 25, has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and a reunion with former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, who is preparing for his first season at Old Trafford. Laporta revealed the club had made an offer to France international Ousmane Dembele , whose contract with Barca expired at the end of June. "Ousmane is no longer a Barca player, but we made him an offer," said Laporta. "He hasn't accepted it yet, but he wants to continue talking. "We're going to carry on speaking, at least for now." … [Read more...] about Frenkie de Jong Not For Sale: Barcelona President Joan Laporta | Football News

Biggest 2022 NFL training camp battles involving rookies: Chris Carson, Zach Ertz among vets to be pushed
imagn's Patrick Breen NFL teams often target positions in the draft to replace veterans as a cost-cutting measure. Those plans can take a few years to materialize and that leads to a healthy competition in training camp. Eagles drafted two young players (center Cam Jurgens and defensive tackle Jordan Davis ) who are talented enough to earn longer looks, but the two veterans ahead of them -- Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox , respectively -- have so many skins on the wall that it is difficult to envision Philadelphia not starting them. It is more likely that Cox starts and splits snaps with Davis. Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III vs. Seattle's running backs Rashaad Penny has played in 10 games or less each of the past three seasons. When available, he did not look like the player who enticed the team to use a first-round selection on his talents. Chris Carson has missed 17 games over the past two seasons. Both are entering the final year on their contract. The … [Read more...] about Biggest 2022 NFL training camp battles involving rookies: Chris Carson, Zach Ertz among vets to be pushed
NHL goalie prospect Ivan Fedotov sent to Russian military base
Philadelphia Flyers goaltending prospect Ivan Fedotov, who reportedly was picked up by law enforcement in Russia last week ahead of a planned move to the U.S., is now at a remote military base in northern Russia, his agent said Tuesday. The agent, J.P. Barry, spoke with The Associated Press amid speculation about Fedotov’s well-being. The situation raised fresh concerns over whether Russian players will be willing or able to join National Hockey League teams that draft them this week as the war in Ukraine continues. The 25-year-old Fedotov is considered one the top goaltenders in the world outside the NHL, and the Flyers expected him to compete for a spot on their roster next season. He won the silver medal as the Russians’ starting goalie at the Beijing Olympics in February and led CSKA Moscow to the Gagarin Cup as KHL champion. He was a seventh-round pick of the Flyers in 2015 but has since played in Russia, with CSKA retaining his rights. The NHL and KHL do not have a transfer … [Read more...] about NHL goalie prospect Ivan Fedotov sent to Russian military base
UCF continues to add blue-chip talent under the direction of Gus Malzahn
Forget an ark, apparently all Gus Malzahn needs to land pairs of two is UCF’s Bounce House. After the Knights beat out Miami for twin defensive backs Ja'Cari and Demari Henderson last recruiting cycle, the Big 12-bound program secured verbal commitments on Wednesday from twin Altamonte Springs (Fla.) Lake Brantley Top247 linebackers Andrew and Michael Harris . The Harris brothers, who grew up in Jamaica and didn’t find the sport of American football until just a few years ago, are considered very green from a scouting standpoint, but they are considered some of the most athletic off-ball linebackers not only in the state of Florida, but the entire country for the class of 2023. That’s why schools like Michigan State, Maryland and Penn State were all also heavily involved in their recruitments. "The reason why we committed to UCF is because we can see ourselves playing for Coach [Travis Williams] and Coach [Kenny] Ingram and just making UCF a better program," … [Read more...] about UCF continues to add blue-chip talent under the direction of Gus Malzahn

USC football: LenDale White predicts quick turnaround under Lincoln Riley
The Lincoln Riley era is under way at USC as the head coach looks to return the program to the heights it reached during the early 2000s when the Trojans won back-to-back national titles. And former USC running back LenDale White , who starred on those championship teams, is confident that Riley can do just that. The former All-American was on hand at USC’s recent Salute to Troy event, where he spoke with USC reporter Keely Eure about the new-look Trojans. White praised the addition of Riley and the excitement the coach has already created in his first offseason with the program. “It feels good to be back home,” White said . “It’s a special feeling right now around this place. Lincoln and (USC athletic director) Mike Bohn have done a great job of, you know, building some excitement around here. And it’s good to be back, man. It feels like real Trojan ball right now.” As for what exactly real Trojan ball entails, White pointed to the excitement around the program.
