Getty Images The New York Yankees will welcome outfielder Harrison Bader to their active roster in the coming days for the first time since obtaining him in a deadline trade with the St. Louis Cardinals . (Bader has been on the injured list since June because of plantar fasciitis.) Bader's addition will likely signal a reduced role for Aaron Hicks , and that reality has Hicks lamenting his situation -- and, perhaps more importantly, wondering about his future with the organization. "I expect [Bader] to come in and start playing every day, as he should," Hicks told Dan Martin of the New York Post on Saturday . "He got traded here to help us win. We need him to be himself to win a World Series. When I get opportunities, I'll try to make the most of them, but it's extremely hard when I play a game and then I'm off for three days and now there's another outfielder out there." Hicks, who will celebrate his 33rd birthday in October, has authored a second consecutive … [Read more...] about Aaron Hicks unsure about future with Yankees: ‘It’s not really my call’

Anthony Joshua delivered one of the best, maybe even the best performance of his career in the Oleksandr Usyk rematch. Yet defeat has condemned Joshua to a slide down from the top tier of the heavyweight division. For the first time in years Joshua will find himself among the chasing pack. Since his star-making performance at the 2012 Olympic Games, and in his barrelling ascent through the professional ranks, he was destined to reach the top. From Charles Martin in 2016 he's taken part in 12 consecutive world title fights and throughout that period, even though he never ultimately fought Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder, he had a legitimate claim to being the best heavyweight in the world. Getty Images Thus far in these NBA awards previews, we've been able to identify one or two trends that tend to predict winners. That's not so easy when it comes to Defensive Player of the Year because judging defense is so subjective. Every voter values different things, every race is different, and to be perfectly frank, the voting pool on balance is less qualified to pick a winner here than it is for any other award. Awards that include offense are much easier to vote on because offensive statistics are so straightforward. Valuable defensive metrics exist, but they're based on opaque formulas most voters don't know or don't care to research. Even the best defensive metrics are flawed, and that makes the eye test essential for picking winners here. The problem? No voter is capable of watching all 30 teams play 82 times. The voting pool tends to be divided into categories: national voters, who watch every team, but by virtue of that volume, can't watch them especially … [Read more...] about NBA Defensive Player of the Year odds: Best bets with Celtics stalwarts, Bam Adebayo among favorites
